    Need a new anchor-gctid386218

I have to purchase a new anchor and was wondering if a West marine Danforth,13 pound anchor with 15 feet of 1/4" chain and 7/16 line. Will this work on my Lewmar windlass on a 2002 2700 SCR? Will this hold?

The old one was a Danforth and held great in the mud, just not sure of chain/rope/anchor size.

I have to get this ordered so i can boat this weekend.

    Thanks

There is a 3 digit code stamped on your lewmar that tells you which size rope / chain to use.

First, take a look at what other boats in your area are using for anchor type. This will give you an idea whether the Danforth style is suitable. I've used Danforths with good results in lots of different bottom types. I've also used plow types with the same results so I'd check with the locals and see which type is favored. A walk down any dock should do it.

Second, I think 13# is too light for a 27 foot boat for anything other than as a lunch hook or spare.

Third, 15 to 20 feet of chain should work fine for most situations. I can't advise about the size though.

Brad is right. Check with Lewmar and see what they suggest. We have always had Delta plow type anchors. If that were my boat, I'd probably be thinking of a 14 lb Delta plow and 200 feet of at least 1/2 inch line. Good luck. Griff

          Excellent advise.

Typically it is recommended to have a boat length of chain.

You want 5 times more total rode than the average depth you plan to anchor in. More is always better.

I think as a rule of thumb

1/4" chain goes with 1/2" line

5/16" chain goes with 5/8" line

          etc

I called Lewmar, their support was excellent. I just replaced my anchor / line a couple weeks ago- went with the Rocna 33.

+1. I got the same anchor, ronca 15, which is 33lbs. IMO, I think 14lbs is too light for your boat.
