Well we made the cruise from Kingston to Grenadier Island on Sunday. Instead of doing an over-nighter we did a day trip. All in all it was a fantastic trip with amazing scenery along the whole way. Only 2 speed limit zones encountered and an un-eventful trip (ie no smashing rocks). Approaching Grenadier Central for the first time was a bit unnerving but i relied on my chartplotter and depth sounder and approached dead slow. Upon arrival at the dock 3 people jumped out of their boats and offered us a hand to dock up. Very friendly people there this weekend. The bay was jam packed with boats at anchor and their was room for 3 boats at the docks. An interesting thing while heading to the island when passing under the Ivy Lea Bridge. It felt like there was one hell of a current there (possibly due to the under water waterfall ??). It took me and listed to port then swiftly to starboard. Round trip 96 miles, run time was 5 hours, 2.5 each way non stop. We burned a 1/2 tank which equates to 5 gph at 25 mph giving an average of 3.7 mpg. Not too bad for a heavy, under powered cruiser. This was the farthest we have taken our boat on a single run and it was great. Friendly people at the Island, hell they even loved our 4 yr old rotti. The other island we were going to stop at were packed when i spoke to Parks Canada Officer at Grenadier. So we opted to run out our day there.
