I'm just getting back into boating after many, many years, but there really isn't a bad spot out in the San Juans. If you don't mind being on anchor, I would stay at Garrison Bay, just south around the corner from Roche Harbor. You can take a dinghy to shore and look at the British Camp from the Pig War.

Planning on a trip to the San Jauns again this year. Anyone have a favorite site to visit in either the S.J.'s or near them in British Columbia. We plan to go for two weeks and take two teenage grandkids. rx es welcomed. Gary
I would check on crabbing and I thought it was closed in the San Juan region until at least August and the State Fisheries site has the info.

Same as last year, we get an extra day per week.
Recreational crabbing is scheduled to reopen at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday July 15, 2012. Crabbing will be open on a Thursday through Monday schedule each week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays will be closed) through Sunday September 30, 2012. Any additional openings will be announced in October.

With the exception of the San Juans and a couple of other places, crabbing begins 1 July... same as last year. So, go down to Port Townsend or Dungeness Bay and crab crab crab... after 1 July... Or go into to Canadian waters and crab prior to 1 July (with a proper license of course)...

I am new to the crabbing hobby and below are the links from WS Fisheries and it looks like it says 7/15 for region 7 South and 8/16 for 7 North so I am unsure how you got to the 7/1 date and I want to make sure i don't get this wrong. Thanks!
