Planning on a trip to the San Jauns again this year. Anyone have a favorite site to visit in either the S.J.'s or near them in British Columbia. We plan to go for two weeks and take two teenage grandkids. rx es welcomed. Gary

There is not a bad spot up there. If you plan on going to BC make sure everyone has a passport it is much easier that way.
We like Friday Harbor, Roche Harbor, Sucia Island, Stewart Island, Rosario Resort, Jones Island, Spencer Spit and Deer Harbor.
In BC: Victoria, Sidney, Sidney Spit, Buchart Gardens, Bedwell Harbor, Otter Bay Marina and Telegraph Harbor.

Roche for the pool and dock walking-Friday harbor for the town movie theater and easy store access. Stay away from fishers mans the kids will be bored and restless. On the hook anywhere you have beach access and a good dingy.

All of the above and I'll add ganges in canada in the gulf islands .Maybe Nanimo but its about 80 miles north.
Make sure to take time to go watch the whales. You will usually find them on the south west corner of sanjuan island generally in heading from friday harbor to victoria canada

I'll add in Montague Harbour on Galiano Island -- great beach.
Wallace Island -- Princess Cove is also a great protected anchorage to drop the hook with water warm enough to swim.

Make sure you bring a couple of crab pots and a cooker. That'll help with keeping the grandkids busy too. Westcott Bay near Roach Harbor is good for crabbing as is just outside of Fishermans Bay on Lopez. We bring our bicycles and cruise some of the islands country sides with our lunches packed.

Otter bay has turned out to be a great spot for us and the kids. They have a great pool with good amenities.
I also think that Friday harbor(ice cream and a real grocery store) is a good stop.
We like Roche for the kids as well, pool and huge field to go run around in + row the dinghy safely. I love the "Colors" ceremony at the end of the night.
there are plenty of places, just get up here, run around and pray for good weather.

If you go to Canada without the grandkids parents you'll need a notarized statement from the parents stating that they are allowing the kids to go with you.

Every recommendation you have received is great. A couple of planning issues you should check on... if fishing or crabbing in Washington State, you'll need licenses for each person, and you are required to have them with you and record your crab catches as you land them! You can get a ticket if you are in the dinghy and planned on recording the crabs when you got back to your boat.
If traveling to Canada you need separate Canadian licenses for crabbing and fishing.
Read the restrictions on bringing beef and other foodstuffs into Canada and their strict limitations on bringing in booze, wine and beer.
Canadian Customs can be really easy, but occasionally can be very persnickety. Only one person can get off the boat when you are at the Customs Dock (that would be you).
Oh, and if going to Canada, add the Canadian option to your cell phone package!!! Otherwise you could be looking at hundreds of dollars of extra charges courtesy of Rogers in Canada. You don't want to mess with that.
Have fun!
