Replacement drain plug that works as a underwater LED light-gctid377630

Has anyone tried one of these new replacement plugs that are made of SS and have 6 LED lights built into the unit? I bought one on a whim and I am wondering how much light these cast off under the swimgrid.

You can see these on youtube but I would like to get any feedback before installing and wiring with a quick connect.

Sure beats drilling into fibreglass for some cool lights

Yeah the light output was decent from what I have seen BUT, in salt and if you keep your boat in the water how do you prevent growth on it that doesn't degrade the light output. Still haven't heard an awnser on this. I was temped to try this before my boat was put in for the season but now that it is in I won't be doing it at least for this year.

My boat came with one of the very large LED underwater light systems that attaches to the hull. It has something like 15 LEDs and cost him $600. It throws very little light beyond the swim platform, which is 4' long. He said it was really bright until he put the platform on. I think if you have an extended platform, you will need lights on the edges, not in the center, to be able to see them.

Also the drain plug is much deeper than ideal. On my previous boat I had simple single-LED lights mounted 1' under the surface on each edge of the transom, and they were BRIGHT. They cost $20 on eBay, marketed as pond lights.

Many thanks, i still have a few concerns as well particularly if the boat stays in salt water which mine will do but may give this a try for what it is worth, seems like a cool idea for what it is worth.
