    Fresh water pump issue-gctid374597

Hi all. I purchased my 2855 in November. It's been a lot of fun already and a real education. Very few issues other than having to rebuild the pump for the head and minor repairs to the transom shower. Now that warmer weather is here, I decided to flush out the fresh water tank (terrible odor). I filled, added some bleach, let sit overnight, and drained. After 3 cycles of this, the fresh water pump, which was previously working perfectly, has ceased to function properly. It doesn't shut off (unable to pressurize the system). It still rattles along but will produce adequate water pressure for only about 30 seconds before slowing to a trickle. Anyone have any ideas for a fix or do I just need to go ahead and replace it?

Likely, your flushing activities have freed up some of the scale in the tank. Check the pump's suction strainer screen. Also, check the screen aerators in the faucets. Clean them all and you'll be back n action.

    And welcome to BOC!

You might have a leak now not allowing to pressurize system.

Maybe with all that cleaning the pump inlet screen is clogged.

Thanks for the input. I had a look at the screen earlier and did notice some nasty brown slime but didn't think it was enough to block the pump. I'll give it a clean tomorrow and hope for the best. By the way, I'm new to boating. Bought my boat in November, 2011 and have, like many of you, spent a lot of time picking up gems of boating knowledge on various forums. This forum is by far and away the best in terms of topics, feedback, and general civility. Not that I mind a little controversy every once in a while.

Check the strainer, sounds like your pump is not getting enough in-flow to sustain the flow rate it is designed for.

Whatever the problem is, it's not likely a pump issue. As mentioned, start checking for leaks, and definitely clean the strainer. Good luck

Depending on the concentration of bleach, the bleach may have attacked the rubber diaphram of the pump.

Yay! Took out the strainer, removed a surprising amount of brown/green slime, and the pump now works better than before.
