Yep, been over there a couple of times. Gets shallow. Still don't know why he would go out in those conditions as it wasn't the best day to go out.

Tom, just use common sense with the weather. If it doesn't look remotely good don't chance it. Like I said I wanted to go out that day with the kids and wife, but the family man in me said no way if there is any chance they could get hurt, we won't go out. What's the point.

Purely a speculation, but in following seas he had likely broached his boat causing it to capsize. Article mentioned lose anchor, but it may have fallen out after their boat capsized.

It's a shame. Things can happen so fast. Thank God there were people in the area to rescue them before it could have gotten much worse.

I worry myself about next year bringing the boat down the shore. Weather changes so quickly compared to being on the lake.

Sad, and probably avoidable. It will be interesting to hear what caused it. Aside from the too few PFDs in use, there's not enough info to learn any lessons.
