Friday i finally found the truck that i wanted and drove it home.

2001 Chevy. 1500 Suburban LS, 5.3L, 4 wheel drive, 117,000 miles.

Drives like it was brand new. Spent 2 day's and 50 bucks, new trailer wire kit. Plug and go. This truck never towed a thing the factory plug had a factory cover. Tighten a few things and generally got it ready and cleaned out.

Came with one key and one remote. I don't use the remote at all i use the key to unlock the drivers door and start the truck.

I don't know is there is a chip in the key???

Anyone know ?

Anyone have one of these and give me a idea on what to look out for ?

Congratulations on the new truck. Suburbans are great vehicles.

No chip in the key.

Why don't you use the remote to unlock the doors? It is a great feature. Unlock the pass. door also or not, your choice.

Power window motors may go - cheap to buy and easy to fix (how-to vids on the Internet)

Headlights fog over - pull 'em (easy to do, no tools required, look in the manual) and spend a bit of time with some cut polish and wax - clean right up

Interior air filters (for HVAC) clog (there will be two if you have rear air) - new ones make the HVAC work MUCH better

Keep the front end maintenance up

Fuel pump.

Keep the tank well above E and change that fuel filter if it looks original. The pump is in the tank and there is no access port thru the truck so you need to drop the tank. On the pick ups it is actually easier to remove the bed than drop the tank. I had a '03 Tahoe and the pump went. Talking to a friend with a repair shop it is rather common.

No chip in the key. For $30 you can get a second remote if you ever need one and very simple to program; no need to go to the dealer for programing.

The style you have is much more durable the the 2007+.

Just spent 70 bucks for minor things and the cost total is 3,320 total !
