    water separating fuel filter-gctid371315

    guys , when is best time to change my water separating fuel filter?? I may have put 20 hours on my motor last year the filter on now was new has the 20 hrs on it. should i put the new one on now before i splash , should i wait to run her a bit after i splash then change it ? can i just take it off dump it and put it back on , being that it has bearly any hrs. on it?? whatya think??

    I change mine every couple of years,allthough I put maybe 20-40 hrs a year on her!

      every fall i dump mine in a glass jar...... let it (the jar) sit for a day, if no water i use it for 1 more season....after 2 seasons i change regardless.....most will prob chime in and say every year......soooooo, its one of those type "oil" questions.....do what works for you!!

          Purchased a replacement filter at WallyWorld last nite $6.75....so cost is not the issue...nice to have a spare on the boat!

            yep my new one was my spare on board from last year , i didnt realize it was that cheap cuz i bought it with a ton of other supplies . Guess ill just change it while im degreasing the motor and cleaning the bilge b4 splash. thanks fellas.

              Carefully fill it almost full of fresh fuel before installing the new filter. Your fuel pump will love you for it!

                yes ! actually i did that last year, thanks bob . I do that when i change my oil filters on my vehicles too. I had a hunch it was a good idea.

                  I reused the fuel filter from last year. On lake

                  wallenpaupak PA. the engine stalled and would not restart. What a cluster f#@k trying to get back to a dock with 1000 boats trying to launch. Looking back the old stale gas was in the lines and filter. the new gas was in the tank all was treated with Sta-bil but still got stuck. I now fill new filter w/ fresh gas and run engine on muffs till all old gas is gone. for 7 bucks it eliminates a variable.
