Does anyone have a suggestion for a low cost stereo for my boat?

I found this package on Amazon-ratings are mixed.

I think it all depends on the quality and level of output you are expecting. I can tell you I have 3x the price of this just for two speakers ... Not saying that's the right way, just saying so many levels of quality.

What are you looking to get out of the system?

My experience is that a "marine" radio might last 1 yr longer than an automotive one in a smallish open boat in a saltwater environment. I have gone through plenty of them.

I gave up on "marine" and just went with a decent automotive deck and replace as needed - you can get a pretty good head unit for not much more than $150 and if you want basic level $75 will still get you I-pod, MP3, CD deck. Not the most frugal way to go but I have gotten tired of stupid fairly inexpensive things screwing up my day when I don't get many days to play on the boat.

In any case the key is making sure you put a decent sealing cover over the face and make sure that something wont be dripping on the body of it from above - like window fasteners, or a cup holder drain.

If you can go $249 for a deck, ipod dock and speakers, check this out....

I have the deck with the ipod holder inside it, but this is cheaper.

The deck is 360 waterproof, i mean you can hold it under water and it will play! they brag about this in their adverts.

You can hide the ipod dock anywhere too. I couldnt be happier with my Fusion equipment, deck, speakers, subs and remotes.

        Just a thought

        good luck

That's because Pyle is just junk. But you said you want cheap, so... Maybe you should outline a price range and your expectations on quality and volume. We've got people here who listen to AM radio on a $50 stereo, and we've got people who have $10k systems on their boats. Everyone expects something different.

            What is your budget?

WM is having a sale on their speakers right now. I found them the best sound for the money. I got my Sony stereo from: onlinecar stereo.com

I'll go up to $200. Anything would be an improvement on my factory stereo, but it still works.

I went for a Sony car stereo (inside the cabin) but they offer a decent marine package for about 200$.

I am using the Alpine 118M even though my head unit is out of the weather. Going with marine you of the options of remotes which i have one on the port side so my wife can control and one on the back so you can reach from the water. The alpine is powering all Rockford Fasgate speakers and amps. Great system

I too am just replacing my system now. I am going with a regular automotive deck with bluetooth capabilities and remote (so i can control iphone from upper deck). I am then upgrading all my speakers to a nice JL audio (which runs about $300/pair). I am having a 10" JL marine grade sub put in ($400) and a marine grade amp ($400 additional). Then my local audio guy is coming out to install and cut in the sub. Charging me $50 for trip charge and a bit more to put it all together.

All scheduled to go in this Friday.

Well,,,,,,,don't laff but I bought one of those junker Pyle systems for my bowrider.

Nothing terrifc, granted, but drink enuff wine and the dang thing sounds like a symphony

Seriously, I was pretty happy with it.

But then I specialize in low-budget

I just put these in my 175 BR and they sound pretty good http://www.overstock.com/Electronics...2/product.html

At full throttle they get drowned out but they are really great for a cheap system and sound awesome except at full throttle.

My dash had the factory radio. Will this unit cover the opening or is it smaller?

                              Thanks.
