We lost one couple (Live aboards) who they think made a partial 911 call. There boat was in a float house. Looks like 10 high end boats went up in all. Still being investigated...
When I spoke to my Cousin Kevin who was there when he called me back around 1PM yesterday said that the pilings were smoldering and some still burning on the tops. He said is was awful and he and the other dockmates and friends he met there were stunned. He said someone told him that a 911 call with a woman's voice screaming was made.
It does appear a liveaboard couple burned alive in the fire....how terrible.
The port is under alot of scrutiny because they didn't feel the fire boat was being used enough to justify the expense, so it was sold at auction for $15,000 earlier this year. You can see in the video firemen trying to spray water from another dock and it's just not getting there to the base of the fire where it needed to be. While it's doubtful it would have saved the two lives at least the property damage could have been minimized with the fire put out quicker.
Bellingham did the same thing with our snow plows several years ago, that weren't getting used enough. Sold them at auction for a fraction of the cost and then we had 3+ feet of snow which paralyzed the city for about a week. Plenty of stupid to go around up here.
