    KingFish in the Tacoma area?-gctid813114

    Hey folks,

I am brand new at fishing saltwater/deep water. Now that I have my boat, I'm really interested in learning to fish in the sound for KingFish. I have many questions, but I will limit it to one question, and then any advice on the subject would be much appreciated. I'm getting mixed messages on Kingfish availability. WA Fish & Wild life says that in area 11 (Tacoma area) that June is prime for kingfish. Videos that I've been watching indicate that they won't return to the sound until the end of July. First I just need to figure out when to start fishing for kingfish? Am I wasting my time trying now? My boat isn't a fishing boat, it's a 2855 ciera. I don't have a downrigger but am interested in getting one. I have a hummingbird fish/depth/gps. I'm struggling to learn the setups for kingfish....ie I've never used a flasher before.

So any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Yes you are wasting your time trying now.

Deep six + flasher can work ok,

Down rigger is a so much better set up since you can adjust the trolling depth...

Thank you!! So the end of July is the prime time? Also, remember I'm new at this type of fishing, could you explain the deep six? I've done a quick search, and from what I see, it is basically the next best technique to downriggers. I'm just not finding exactly how they work. Thank you again.

Here's how the deep six works I've tried them before, it pulls pretty hard on the rod.

Check this guys info out and apply it to your area.

John’s Sporting Goods specializes in a full line of fishing equipment for the serious angler. We are located in Everett, WA just a few blocks from Puget Sound and just a short drive from the San Juan Islands.

His book is worth buying, the fishing spot information is mostly more north, but the methods are dead on. My catching went up dramatically when I just followed the instructions. The lack of opportunity last year and this and a new to me boat that trolls way too fast are going to make fishing interesting for me, if I even try for more that crab.
