If twin of the screws are just turning, they are through bolts. The trick is getting visibility to the nut the getting a socket on them. Going back together is more of a challenge. I often have to tape the nut to a socket or wrench and have someone else turn the bolt.

Thanks all, does anyone know how to remove the lower helm port /starboard shift control pedestal on a 4087 to gain access to the cable connections?

It’s not difficult, but it is a pain in the backside. It’s a good two person job when it’s time to install the replacements. For all the messing around, it’s just as easy to replace all four if you have to do one. You may be able to read the cable numbers prior to removal. This may help. http://www.seastarsolutions.com/prod...xtreme-cables/
The data sheets on the right are helpful in deciphering which cable you need.

If it affected only shifting into reverse, then it may be as simple as adjusting the cable. If the cable is worn out, the process is to dismount the shift assembly, then remove the cotter pin holding the cable adapter to the shifter eccentric hole at both ends. Note the numbers on one end of the housing and order your new one based on the length number in inches. Reverse the process for installation. A couple of pairs of needle nose pliers are helpful.

    Fly Bridge shifting cable replacement

While moving my Bayliner 4087 around to face the bow into weather my port fly bridge shifting cable suddenly stopped engaging reverse. I was able to go to the lower station and finish moving the boat. Anyone on the forum replaced a cable from the upper station? Any advice before I take on this project is greatly appreciated.
