My Ciera 3055 Re-powered with Volvo D3-220 Diesels

After a long time deliberating whether to repower my 3055 or sell it any buy another boat, I finally decided to keep her and go down the re-power path. Out with the old 5.0 Merc Gas engines and B2 legs, and in with a couple of brand new Volvo Penta D3-220 Diesels, DPS Duoprop drives and full EVC electronics with glass 7" MDF cockpit. I completely rewired the boat. Totally new helm area including new DC panels. 3055's do tend to suffer from 'damp' transoms and mine was no exception. With good exterior glass all ply/glass was removed from the inside leaving just 3/8" of solid exterior glass on the transom. The transom including reinforced engine beds were re built using 4 layers of thermolite/grp. Much stronger than traditional Ply/GRP whilst being about 20% the weight. Engines in, Genset in, water maker in, Fuel tank flushed and many other alterations has created the most amazing 3055 around (in my view) - 30% the fuel consumption, able to stay on the plane at 15kts's with a top speed over about 35kts. the flexibility of the huge diesel torque has totally transformed this boat along with the modern electronics and fly by wire. Coupled with my recently installed Vetus bow thruster i has made an already easy to maneuver boat just plain simple - in any weather condition. OK, so the only downfall was the cost - well into 6 figures, but I now know exactly what I've got!...

Now that's a beautiful retrofit. Now you're good for another 2000 hours. A fun fact would be to run the numbers on how much $$$ you'll save on fuel.

Well done there, Ozhummer!! That was quite a project and it sounds and looks like it was well worth the six figures! I love what you've done with her; that dash is really something and then the diesel repower - WOW! that's all I can say and you say you put in a bow thruster too . . . man, that's nice. Yeah, she looks like she's gonna be just what you wanted. Easy to justify the cost - essentially, you've got a new boat and look at a guesstimate of what that might have run you and I think you're still better off! plus, you know what you've got AND it'll be cheaper to run! Congrats there, fellow BOCer . . . fine job.

Just clicked over 50 hours on the clock - only filled her up twice. Having now lived with it for a few months I can tell you it was absolutely worth the effort and expense. I still only have dust around the bilge pump and it just runs perfectly. Planning an extended coastal trip next month so will be interesting to see how it all performs... I will post photos etc of that adventure.
