Dual 50amp/125v inlets to single 50amp/250 Shore Power-gctid823534

I was going to post a "How To" but for liability reasons, that's probably a bad idea. But, pics below of what I did, and it is a good reference for anyone who hasn't had a chance to dig around in their boats.

My boat has 50 amp breakers on line 1 & 2. It had 2 runs of 8/3 primary cord going to a 125v/50a inlet and a newer 250v/50a inlet. The 125v/50a was starting to show signs of overheating and as you can see in the pictures, the original wiring was pretty nasty. Also, as you can see in the pictures, I had 50a to 30a converters, to 30 amp cords, to 30a to 50a splitter. Line 1 plug was getting warm to the touch...

Way to many connections and cords and questionable wiring and not enough gauge for me to feel comfortable going into winter as a liveaboard. I'm certain I will be pulling every bit of amperage I can while trying to stay warm, lol. Plus, it looks cleaner!

New 250/50 cord, SmartPlug 50a conversion, 13 feet of 6/4 primary, terminal ends: ~$800

    Prepping both cords: 2 hours

Pulling old and running new: 3 hours

Hindsight being 20/20, I probably should have run neutral to a stud, then 2 wires to the switch instead of the jumper. That's a lot of metal stacked on that terminal.

I just need to zip tie everything together and button it all up. I will make a panel out of starboard to mount over the other inlets hole. Oh, and the mess of cords I had to deal with on the dock. Since it is all new this season, it is for sale!
