Replaced swim platform on Capri 1950-gctid394592

I purchased the teak platform on Craigslist at the end of last summer, some illnesses prevented me from working on it till recently.

I had two L shaped brackets and two alum struts from the previous owner, so I had to purchase two triangular shaped brackets online- found a dealer who was half price of everyone else for SS brackets too. Boater Bits-http://www.boaterbits.ca/about-boaterbits

Dave was a good person very helpful too.

The tricky part was fitting the platform to the transom which has a V shape to it. Some trial and error with a cardboard cut out, resulted in the idea that I didn't want to make any cuts to the platform itself. I lined it up and measured several times. Even so, I had some problems setting up the brackets exactly where I wanted them to be. But it turned out fine in the end. And I only made one "extra" hole in the transom which is easily fixed.

I think it looks pretty nice, and will install the new 3 step SS ladder that goes over the top later today. Ready to put her back in the lake!

    Joe

Tried the swimplatform for the first time yesterday afternoon. Wow what a difference, added space to hang out, made boarding the boat very easy compared to the stock Bayliner platform. I should have done this years ago! A view of sunset at our lake.

Good job. Any larger pics of platform.

When I bought my boat this year an extended swim platform was a must and I love it too.

        New dimension.

Kids up from, mom and dad with some "pops" at the back.

I just added one after 2 years of talking about it and my wife being somewhat against it and what you said

is exactly what she said and her reaction the first time she used it las week. I was itching to give her an "I told you so" but common sense prevailed and I was able to bite my tongue.

It does make a difference Freeport! I used to live on LI so I know Freeport, and still visit relatives regularly on the Island.

Will take a better picture later today. I ended up using two L brackets alum. type and two alum. struts towards the center of platform plus two triangle brackets SS on the outer edges. Works ok and wasn't too bad to install once I figured out what I wanted to do exactly. Just wish the platform itself was a little wider.

Here's a better picture. Sorry it took so long to reply! Summer is busy.

Nice looking swim platform, nice work! I have pretty much the same Bayliner, 1986 Capri 1950, except I have the AQ225E w/275. Starting some motor mount and transom work now, pulled the engine to replace connecting shaft bearings and found some soft rot spots.....it nevers ends!!!

                Again, nice platform..
