Here we have a 1990 Bayliner 2556 Ciera w/ Merc 454 Bravo 2My Father's boat purchased new at the Seattle Boat Show.New engine installed in 05 or 06. Hardly used in the last few years. Low hours, regular maintenance at local merc shop.Because it wasn't used much in the last few years, my father was considering selling the boat because he didn't want to spend any more money maintaining the engine. Rather then sell, I said I would take over the maintenance duties and costs in exchange for use of the boat.Well, here it is. Rot everywhere. At least it stays covered all winter so the outside is in good shape. But the inside had water in the bilge all winter and the wood just soaked it up. This coupled with the leaks for the past 10 years had completely ruined the interior.

After gutting the inside, I put down some 3/4 marine ply for the deck. Removed the water tank and replaced the bilge pump.The seating area lost a little weight thanks to the sawsall. Now the area can be used for gear storage. I mounted some 3/4 ply on the side and had a few downrigger mounts laying around so I used them so I could have the downriggers next to the door rather than up in the V berth. I also used some bike hooks for pole holders with some velcro to tighten them down so they dont rattle.

Went over all the wood with red mahogany stain and some poly. Painted the panels Almond. Bathroom and holding tank removed. Relocated wood panel with mirror to serve as a table extension when the "bathroom" is not in use. Installed bendable shower curtain rod and a shower curtain for privacy. Somebody hand me the deck bucket.

Removed the stove and sink and put down a new table top. Cut out most of the cabinets and installed some plastic shelves and a trash can. On the floor I used some athletic gym matting. We'll see how it works but it seemed like a good idea because I can pull it up easy to get at the bilge hatches and can also take it out for cleaning. Relocated the heat shield from the stove to just above the seats to keep the fishing poles away from the people seated.

Went over the teak with the red mahogany and some cetol marine poly. Panels are Almond. Sealed around all the windows and gutters (its fresh, it will dry clear). Weather stripping installed for the door.

That tackle box has a short life span, that is why I didn't refinish it. The pink vinyl on the inside it all gone. I replaced the top piece with some wood trim and left the bottom white fiberglass. Installed emergency bilge and new fishfinder and new blower.

To most of you bayliner cruisers, she may look a little rough, but that is just how I want her to be. She is meant for slaying salmon, halibut and king crab (if they open the season), not for cruising marinas or lounging on lakes:arr

Looks neat, definitely a hardcore fishing rig when you take the walls of the head down and leave the head :c)
