New Cabin Windows and other projects as well-gctid380853

Replaced all the Cabin windows. Had 2 pieces that had cracks, 10 pieces in all.

    Here is what I learned.

The glazing tape is amazing, even after 19 years. Removing it is a bear.

To remove all the residual tape, first use a window scraper and change blades often.

Then use acetone and course grit steel wool.

After working a few feet use a clean terry towel to clean up.

Rinse well with soapy water to remove any lingering acetone before applying new tape and windows.

Shoot lines with a pencil so everything lines up.

Double up the tape so the next owner can have just as much fun.

I took the pieces to a local plastics shop. They cut each piece individually use the original as a template and used a router to cut each one identical to the OEM one. And they left the originals attached to the new ones so I could identify them. Not bad for $300.

A friend shot the trim pieces with black paint and clear-coat.

I am very bad at taking photos of work in progress so here are photos of the windows removed prior to cleaning and the finished product. It took years off the boat.

I had posted in another thread how I did not like the cabinet I did last year.

Here is a photo of a newly made one. It still needs trim and stain, but it is much less overpowering than the last attempt.

Original design had an arm pad. (that I never used). I think this is much better use of the space. Added bonus, the cup holder has LED's!!

I remember the cabinet picture you posted that you did not care for.

This one is very nice, very attractive. Quite a difference.
