The Vberth in our 4588 consists of a regular 2" mattress and an 2" layer of foam. Not the most comfy, so we upgraded the foam. The Admiral bought a queen sized 4" memory foam on the interwebs for $170.
In the process, I found out that I'm not the sharpest spoon in the drawer. Box with the foam arrives, it's about 20*20 (like two thirty packs) and weighs about 50 lbs. Admiral wants it aired out, so I get it out of the box and unroll it in the mid-cabin. A little worried because it's only about 1" thick and the size of a twin bed, but I'll worry about that later.
Next day come down to find the foam has expanded into the expected queen by 4" size and is bulging out into the companion way. Bad move, how am I going to get it wrestled out of the cabin and into the salon so I can cut it? Many curse words later it's on the floor, a perfect fit in the salon.
Flop the old foam, and using the electric carving knife cut to shape. It fits really well and the extra 2" of foam is nice.
