    High rpms low speed

Hello ... I have a 1998 Bayliner 2855 with a 5.7 merc curser I went out today and my rpms were over 4000 doing 10kmh ??i have never had that issue before. Before I call my technician I am curious what could be the issues ??

the hub may have spun in the prop... it happens sometimes, and is the most likely cause.
were you getting any burning rubber smell? if so, this would indicate a spun drive coupler between the engine and the outdrive.

Unless you have the resin infused glass hubs, it’s probably a spun hub. That’s a trip to a prop shop for servicing.

Have you confirmed that there is not seaweed, rope, plastic bag over or around the prop? Did you get a visual on the prop for condition? Have you tried to put in in reverse to shrug off potential fouling?

if its a spun hub, it will be less than $100 to have it replaced, and depending on the style, it could be as low as $30....

It cost me $150 to replace the hub a few years ago on a Bravo II prop.

Easy to check the spun hub:

                - Raise the drive
                - Put a mark on the propeller nut
                - Put aligned mark on the propeller collar
                - Lower the drive (important )
                - Go for a ride
                - Raise the drive and look at the marks, if they are no longer aligned, prop hub is spun.
