    Sticky Stuff-gctid406663

Got a couple of questions for the gurus around here. First off, the outdrive on my 185 has tape and sticker residue all over it, apparently from things Mercury put on it when the leg was manufactured. I would guess that the dealer pulled the tape and whatnot off but didn't bother to clean the glue off afterwards. Any suggestions on what to use that will clean the adhesive off and not ruin the paint job?

Second question. You can tell that Brunswick let the lawyers loose on these boats, especially if you have a new one. My boat has more warning labels with don't do this, don't do that, hold your mouth this way under these circumstances, blah, blah, ad nauseam. There are so many at the helm that it's like reading a book. In any case, they also put a sticker on the back of the boat, a duplicate of one at the helm, warning about carbon monoxide.

I want that sticker on the back off, but I need to know how to get it off without messing up the finish back there.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks...

3M adhesive remover works for most things without harming the paint. Comes in a spray can - you can buy it at just about any hardware/auto/wally world

lets put it this way, someone jumped off a boat, got ran over by the prop and lost a leg due to driver incompitense. They sued searay for not having enough warnings or gaurds around the prop to prevent this. They won...searay had to pay alot of money to the idiot.

I dont blame them for the warnings, most are state or fed requirements, others are to protect them from dbags like that.

I use Goof Off and Goo Gone on the stickers on my sleds, need a bit of elbow grease, but better than using gas!

Hmm, ya think? I know why they are there. Idiots and dbags galore there are on the water, and that's a fact. Been dodging them for 25-odd years now.

But I just want that one on the transom off, and I have my answer on how to do it.

WD40 is great for removing glue. gas on a rag will take it off instantly and no, it wont hurt the finish.

baby wipes. (go 4 the fragranced ones)

then keep them on the boat for anything else you want to clean from your engine to cleaning your hands after servicing it.

I found this stuff called :worthGoo be Gone and it got an eon of old lable call name stuff off the stern of our 3888.. it was SIMPLE.. I used a green scrubby sponge and the goo gone and it came right off, no elbow grease needed for it.. didnt scratch anything... tried tons of other things and it still left a film of goo on it.. the goo be gone wiped it smooth and clear

we keep them on the boat in both heads.. we have a pack on the cockpit when cleaning fish or baiting hooks.. they are awesome.. they clean the salon table well without scratching the lexan cover... sadly I tried them to get the glue goo off and it smeared it more... goo gone was perfect and cheaper then the butt wipes..lol
