    Painting the Hull-gctid825161

This winter my sons and are going to restore a small Skiff, Boston Whaler look alike. The boat once done will most like be kept in the water for 4-5 months at a time in fresh lake water.. We would like to paint the hull or have it sprayed but not sure yet. My question is what paint is well suited for this project. I'm not really interested in Anti Foul Bottom paint. Can we use Auto paint on the hull? If not what would you recommend.

Personally I'd try to cut & buff the existing gelcoat first, you may be surprised at how it turns out.

There is no paint that I know of that can be left in the water. Other than bottom paint any glossy paint will bubble and peel.

If it's small best do it in gel coat.

The boat was seems to have been painted may years ago and it is in bad condition. There is bottom paint is flaking off. I really don't want deal with the maintenance of bottom paint. The boat is only 13' and look just like Boston Whaler.

Yea that is what I thought as well. I just did not want to have to paint sand a buff if there are other options.
