    New (39)88 Capri Cuddy Cabin-gctid399607

I've been checking out your forum for a few days now, and must say, you Bayliner folks seem like a pretty decent bunch. I picked up our new Capri last night, a decent price off the Craigslist, basically buy the trailer and get the boat for free kind of deal. It's pretty solid, although filthy. The PO parked the boat after the first of a few kids were born, and it sat in his driveway for the past 8 years. Gonna get to cleaning it up this weekend, then early next week comes the task of getting the little 3.0L to fire up!! Will have pics up later, hopefully I can get it out on the water a few times this summer, but will take a bit of work. Getting ready to pull it to the front of the shop for a bath now, 8 years of driveway mold and fungus will take a bit to clean up.

So this kind of sums up where we started, just a bit fuzzy in spots. Lots of lichen on the hull, and top. After a good night of scrubbing, got the hull looking much better, still tired and faded, but much better. Lots of scrubbing to get the brunt of the growth off, then we let some tilex just soak for a while and it just melted the blackness away. Hopefully on Sunday we'll be able to get the top off and cleaned up a bit. Found a few leaks in bolts, ie cleats, windows, etc... No biggie, plenty of time for that later.

Looks can be deceiving. Though much of the riff raft is gone

Phew... definitely some funk to clean up, hopefully the interior of the boat didn't sit full of water.

Looks like a big project and I can't wait to see more pictures... congratulations on the purchase!

The innards of the boat is pretty solid, no rot so far as I could find anywhere. That's not to say that there isn't any, but it's well hidden. The transom looks and feels tight. Supposedly the engine ran when it was pulled from the water and winterized many moons ago. Then it sat for several years, then there was an attempt to start it a few years ago. he changed the plugs and coil, but nothing. Gonna start with with a proper tune up, get that fuel tank cleaned out, check all the wiring, and get this bad boy started up.

This is exciting, never owned a boat before. We wanted something a little bigger, to do some island hopping, ie Martha's Vineyard, Block Island, etc.... but there's no way we're paying for slippage anywhere, and much bigger and our trucks aren't pulling the boat out of the water, so, until I get a larger truck, or the funds to give a marina every month, it's gonna be this little guy. We should still be able to hit the rivers for a quiet weekend, maybe some islands on quiet weekends who knows.

Make sure to hit Nantucket, I spent a few summers living there. I love that island.

You would not be the old man from said island would you? One of my life's goals is to meet that guy, lol.

Not sure this ride will ever see Nantucket though, that seems like a bit of a haul for this vessel. I am curious about the smaller boats going out to the islands here. Who's done it, how small is too small, etc..

That's what I'm figuring. Putting together a shopping list now of things to get it started up the first time. Wanna swap out the impeller, all fluids, fuel tank emptied, and then worry about the running part. I buffed one little corner last night with some automotive machine glaze, and it looked decent, so I'm excited to get some actual gel-coat buffing compound and buff it out well. Probably gonna wash it another time or two first, there was so much mold and lichens, no way to get it all at one go. Plus the wife ruined her nails with all the tilex and scrubbing, lol. This is her pretty hands time of the year, and I ruined it, but she's getting excited about how it's looking.

I like to get my old toys when i get them started first then clean them up after the the mechanics are perfect.

That would make sense I guess. But I'm not getting any parts in until Monday or Tuesday, so I don't wanna do nothing. First boat, so I don't have left overs or extras of anything. If this was a small block, or just about any car, I would be set here, but alas, it's a boat.

Goood luck on your project. I bought a 1985 Capri Cuddy, 19' last year. Mine has the 305 chevy v8. It has been a great boat so far. The previous owner took really good care of it. Always garaged. Has all original upholstery and top in excelent shape.

                        Enjoy the experience.

Good luck on the overhaul. I'm looking at a 19ft bowrider for long island sound boating. I wonder if that is a mistake...

I have the exact same boat. I bought it this year and we love it. It is solid, and it was a great deal as well. Mine was running but I changed the shift cable myself, and cleaned up a few other things. If I can help in any way. BTW, the 3.0 is a really easy engine to work on, and from what I've been told, quite bulletproof is not abused. I can get 38 mph out of mine with a 15P prop, but the engine is really revving high.

here is a pic at anchor with the admiral enjoying her kindle.

Gotta get some new pics, the boat it looking completely different now. Almost presentable, lol. I realized that boat parts are silly expensive, so I'm in the process of setting up some wholesale accounts so I can sell parts along with my automotive line-up here at the shop, and save myself some coin at the same time. Those pics of the boats in the water is great motivation though!! Looking good, can't wait to get this one splashed in!!

It's funny, I've spent over a combined 2 years of my life out to sea and probably less than 5 hours total actually in the sea air, soaking up any sunshine what so ever, lol. This is going to be a new experience all together.
