  • Bayliner 1802 Motor Replacement-gctid823843

I own a 1999 Capri 1802CCV. It is a 17.5 foot cuddy with a 120 HP Force. I love the boat and it is in excellent condition. I would like to say goodbye to the Force and am looking at a used Mercury 115 Optimax. The only hesitation I have is the Opti is 73 lbs. heavier than the Force. The boat has a low transom to begin with and I don't want to end up with the scuppers under water. I contacted Bayliner and I got a reply from someone at SeaRay Tech Support and they thought I would not have a problem.

Anybody have any experience upgrading on an older Capri or this boat in particular?

    Thanks!

I had a 2000 1802 Capri Cuddy with a 2000 90HP Merc. The optional motor was the 125HP Merc. I would have no issue hanging a 115 Merc on the back, GO FOR IT!

I have a 1990 Capri 1800 bowrider. I replaced the 90 HP Force with a 90 HP Evinrude E-TEC 12 years ago. The weight was very close to the Force, at least closer than anything else at the time that the closest dealer carried and serviced. Motor is still doing fine.

You may want to figure out a way to add 75 pounds to the current motor and see where the water line is.
