I just purchased an '04 Bayliner 175xt. Love the boat. Took it out on my maiden voyage yesterday, and nailed something that was sticking up from the bottom. I was in fairly deep water, so I can't figure out was it was, but it bent the heck out of the prop and took a chip out of the horizontal fin above the prop. Anyways, before the damage happened, I was running the 14" diameter 19" pitch aluminum prop at WOT. Out of the hole shot I was getting about 4200 rpm, and as my speed increased my WOT got up around 4800 rpm (my owners manual says 4400-4800 optimal WOT). I have a couple questions.
1. when you're measuring WOT, are you measuring the WOT on the initial hole shot, or total WOT once you get planed and speed up?
2. Is the factory tachometer accurate enough to use as measuring device for WOT?
Now for the 3 blade vs 4 blade. Due to all the shallow bodies of water we have here in North Idaho, I am not going to use stainless props. Whatever I hit yesterday was big and hard, and while it knock the hell out of my outdrive and bent the crap out of the prop, everything is still there and functional. I am looking for opinions from people that have used 3 blade vs 4 blade props. Do to the RPM's I was getting, I was considering a 14.5" diameter 17" pitch 4 blade aluminum solas amita prop. The math I did should bring up my rpm's a little bit and give me a better hole shot. Anyone using this setup or something close to it? Anyone used it and hated it? Thanks for the help.
