Adding Depth Gauge (Good Idea for 175BR?)-gctid366000

Thinking of adding a depth gauge to my 2009 Bayliner 175 bow-rider. This boat has the full range of gauges, not like the newer 175s that have fewer gauges. Anyway, there isn't a lot of good room for a standard round in-dash depth gauge so I thought I could just use the auxiliary switch space. In other words, take out the auxiliary switch and put in the depth gauge. It looks like the new gauge would fit pretty well into the auxiliary switch space. Not sure if I'd ever put anything into the auxiliary switch space anyway. With that in mind, is it a good idea to use that space for a gauge I want and would use? This question will be easier to answer/give opinion-suggestion for those familiar with the 2009 gauge panel or other years with a like panel. Thanks for your input.

can you throw us a pic of your instrument cluster? easier to give ideas with it.

For what it is worth, i would not go with faria, i have had two complete systems fail on me in 3 yrs......

Concur that pictures would help, even stock photos if they are representative of you dash. Depth gauges are important items IMHO.

On my 2003 175, the depth gauge I had was the Fish Finder. It was mounted on a swivel stand and did not take up dash space.

The most import guage other than the Fuel Guage......................

Without it I would have lost even more off my props over the years.

(Gone stainless now just in case I touch when getting skiers ready)

I use my fish finder as the previous post suggests, I haven't seen the factory in dash type but would think you would need all the gear anyway so an entry level Fish finder might do the job.

Any kind of depth sounder is a good idea. I wouldnt go out with one.

You can run the mount for a fishfinder off the windshield support. Wire the Fishfinder to the ACC switch. If you mount the transducer on the transom (as opposed to shoot thru ) you'll get water temp too, if equipped) Another nice feature.

There are several examples in the Epic Bowrrider thread at the top of this forum.

I've read good reviews about the Norcross Depth Sounder. It is view-able with polarized glasses as well, something most cannot do. I bought one but have yet to put it in as the boat is in storage till end of this month. You can mount it on either side of the steering wheel, I have my stereo remote on the right and plan to put the depth sounder on the left. I wouldn't remove the aux switch, you may need it some day. It looks like as good a place as any to me. You want it right in plain sight so you have plenty of time to savor the moment when you cross those shallows and tuck your feet up trying to get just a little higher. :livid::livid::livid:. That's one piece of gear that will likely save you a heap of $$$$$$$$. If you need the AUX cluster you can always install it later over towards the side or someplace else near where it came. You have a lot of room there, just no cut outs. That plastic drills really well with a circular hole saw if you need to reinstall the Aux down the road.
