I bought my first boat, a 1999 Bayliner Rendezvous 2459 deck boat a few weeks back. It spent it's entire life in a slip up to meeting me, and did not have any service records. The only thing wrong with it at the time was bad fuel, a desperate need of a tune up, and many years of mineral crust on the drive.
Thankfully I have a friend who is a boat mechanic, and we started the adventure of servicing EVERYTHING on the boat, so there are no doubts about it being water-worthy for me. He helped me order up/purchase all of the various seal kits, bearings, doo-dads, and fluids we thought we needed. After many trips to Bass Pro Shops, local marine shops, 3 or 4 online orders for parts, a couple weekends and several evenings working on the boat - I think I see light at the end of the tunnel. Once the last parts I ordered today arrive and are installed, we can take the boat back out on the water! Once all the work is done, I will still need to clean her up and polish the hull.
Looking forward to that first cruise with friends and family!
