is there an option to customize so that some threads/catagories wont show on my screen?

my home page for this site is "new topics"... a couple other forums im a member of allows the member to customize what categories they see on their screen in the "new topics" forum. does this site allow us to do that?..

I became a member of this forum because im interested in boats.. I am NOT interested in all the political rhetoric/opinions/garbage that keeps showing up on this bayliner/boating site.... I fully appreciate everyones opinion about boats, boat problems, equipment, cruising and other boating topics in general.... and as much as I support everyones right to free speech and to have their own opinions about ANYTHING, I strongly dislike my screen showing their POLITICAL thoughts, wonderment's and opinions... because thats not what I came here for.

I also feel its right to have a catagory for political opinions and rants here for people to amuse themselves with, but I dont want to participate in it or see it on my screen...

this isnt the only forum im a member of, but because I havent found a way here to "ignore" the categories that I dislike (the political stuff), it seems like there is getting to be more political opinions here all the time. its impossible to log in and NOT see a couple of political threads about something other than boats on almost every page of the "new topics" .

sometimes boating subjects are political, NO PROBLEM... but all the other garbage is a problem.
and respectfully, to all those that post their political opinions here, I agree they are fully valid opinions in your mind, and you have a right to make them, and I ONLY call garbage because they have nothing to do with the subject of this site...AND because they are being delivered to me when I dont want them... maybe I should call it spam, if you feel it sounds more politically correct :-)

if that feature existed, I would use it for the reasons you already described.
but, its probably a "nice 2 have" thing with low priority. other things are
fairly higher priority, like restoring lost pictures and links. right now i
get by... via ignoring things. its a minor inconvenience to ignore stuff that
    I'd rather not see.

Why don't you just go right into the section you want? Example if you only want to read the Cruisers section, bookmark it and go to that page.
(https://www.baylinerownersclub.org/f...odels/cruisers) This will stop you from seeing Political topics.

The “new topics” tab at the top has no ability to filter, not by the member, and not by use behind the scenes.
That ability might be included in a future software update though, and I will be looking for it, as we are scheduled for a new update in the next month or so.

The “latest posts” sidebar does not show posts from the political section. I coded it that way so that folks that do not want to see that kind of thing do not have to see it.

For the time being, my recommendation would be to use the “latest posts” sidebar in lou of the “new topics” tab.

        Thanks

I totally agree Centerline. The political posts are sometimes more than half of the 10 latest activity posts. I find the sidebar to be a complete waste of space as it only shows latest posts, not latest activity. The latest activity gives you a preview which the sidebar does not.
Going right into the section you want is not an option either, as many of us like to view, help and answer to all boating topics.
Maybe the political section should just be hidden. Those that want to participate can go directly to that section. It seems like it is the same core people that hang out there anyway.
I also agree that for now restoring lost threads and pictures etc should take priority.

It'd also be nice to see what category a thread in new topics is in.

this would exclude me seeing all the other boating related threads in other catagories... I like seeing boating related threads.
Even though ALL of them might not hold an interest to me, there is almost always something to glean from, or share with the poster that is helpful...

I checked out the "latest posts", and although its not as nice of format as the new topics page is, it could work for my purpose... EXCEPT, when Im on the page and I go to a thread to see what is being said, when im done reading and click on the back button, it takes me all the way back to the forum catagories page, rather than back to the "latest posts" page...
if I click on latest posts within the thread im viewing, it only refreshes that thread. its not very user friendly this way.
