Starboard List, Water in Battery Compartment

    Hello All,

I bought a 1984 Trophy 2460 about a month ago. Was finally able to drop her in the water this past weekend, first time since the sea trial. Mechanically, everything is great. Small issue with the 280 outdrive reverse lock but think I have that ironed out.

A big concern is a pronounced starboard list. It sits about 3-4 inches lower than the port when at rest (pictured). So much so that the water line is about a 1/2 inch above the Sink drain thru-hull. On plane, the tabs correct it with no issue. As far as weight distribution, I there was no gear aboard aside from required safety gear. Heaviest piece being the anchor (~30 lbs) which was stowed in the center of the boat. Other than that, I (~190 lbs) was at the helm (SB side) and a friend (~240 lbs) port side passenger.

After pulling her out of the water I opened the battery compartment (located SB side of the engine compartment) they were sitting in about 2-3 inches of water. I have no idea where that came in from, fairly calm water, no splashing over the rails. I checked checked every other accessible along the entire SB side of the hull, it was all dry. There doesnt seem to be any drain from the battery compartment into the bilge.

Anyone have any insight on either issue?

P.S. - Yes, the list is still present when free floating. The dock lines are slacked in the picture, they are not causing the list.

Can not tell from your description, perhaps pictures of the compartment an surrounding area?

Does the boat have a waste holding tank? And if so, is it on the SB side? If so, and it is 20 gallons (and full), that would be an additional 166 pounds of weight.

If possible post some pics of all the compartments, port, starboard, fish wells, battery layout etc...
What you describe sounds out of wack with the layout I would expect to see.
Also the sink drain should be midship not near the stern.

Pics of the “battery compartment” may be helpful. Id suggest the batteries be moved over to the port side to help correct the listing issue.

The batteries are typically on the port side in this model, and they are not in any type on closed area, there is a path for water to flow through 2 stringers to the bildge.

Sounds like there has been some "custom custom" stuff done to this barge.

Yep, never know what a PO may have done😳
Im not familiar with his model but the “water in the battery compartment” didn’t sound right.
Let’s hope for some detailed pics.

No holding tank on this model, also the fresh water tank is located mid-ship center-line.

Here's a pic of a 1986 and the battery area is indeed on the starboard side, unlike my '89 model. I will assume the '84 is the same.

My water heater leaked into the battery compartment
on my 2859. Several limber holes through the stringers
had clogged up. I used a hack saw blade to poke out
the clogs in all my limber holes.
