very nice work on the dash Keith, so much more modern than the analog gauges, impressive.

Wow! What a transformation of the dash-looking forward to the outcome, sea trials etc. Will be interesting to see performance figures- I have Volvo kad32’s factory fitted but seem a bit underpowered, cruising at 3200rpm I get approx 21kts and tops out WOT 30kts.

It will be really interesting to compare performance with the Kad32's. Not sure what they weigh, but with the transom work and engine weight loss I am going to be in the region of half a ton lighter in the ass end...

They shipwrights estimate they removed 300kg (660lb) of moist ply from the transom. Replaced it with Thermo-light which is like replacing steel with titanium (similar price difference too I reckon). The transom has been reinforced with new gussets rising up from the main bearers and new for Bayliner, structural glass on the inside of the boat!....

The work should be finished today, I will have the Dash finished today also. Watermaker is being installed tomorrow (hopefully), then engines!.... Volvo will commission the boat when it's finished and will have diver at the ready to change props in water. They are really good as they have calculated what they believe will be the best props, but in case they are wrong will have sets of different size/pitch on hand to sea trial so we get the perfect match.

My hope is that we will be able to get on the plane fast, cruise at about 2600 rpm at 24 to 26 kts. But withe the reduced weight, and massive torque along with duo props be able to stay on the plane at much lower speeds. Currently she fall off at about 18 to 19 kts. Would be nice to be able to cruise at these low speeds riding flat....

      More photos will come tonight...

Yeah, that IS ONE nice looking dash!! Very professional and organized . . envious.

All looking good then. Kad32’s are around 475kg inc drive-envious of your anticipated cruise figures. Have ound 24/25kts is a really comfortable speed for the 3055 a d feels “ just right” but too close to WOT for extended cruising.

Looks like you will have a one of a kind Bayliner once you are completed with the project. What size engines did you put in? They look a lot smaller than what came out.

Volvo D3 220s, same HP but 50% more torque... volvos sit a lot closer to the transom than Mercs... plenty of play room...

Looks great! I'm very interested how the seatrials go. My 3055 was repowered in 2013 by the previous owner. It has 2* VM mr704lx 2.8l diesel engines with 230hp 480nm and bravo 3 sterndrives. The VM engine is the same as mercruiser 2.8 230hp diesel engine. For now we have cruise speed 25knots @ 3300rpm and wot 30knots@3800. I would like to see a little lower rpm at cruise speed. I will test props with more pitch at some point. The Volvos are lighter than VM engines, the VMs weight 477kg per engine with the bravo 3 leg, 360kg engine only.

Sea trials have been completed with figures below.

Full fuel, full water, 4 adult men on board..

                      WOT 4000rpm 35kts
2900 RPM 25 kts - its very happy at this speed
will hold plane ok at 17 kts

                      fuel consumption

                      idle. 700rpm 4kts 0.7L/h combined
                      2900 rpm 25kts 42L/h combined
                      WOT 4000rpm 63L/h combined

                      overall

the boat feels totally different, its very very responsive jumps onto the plane faster than it ever did. Its fantastic. I love the single lever mode, auto trim sync and cruise control of the Volvo EVC system.

Impressive numbers, Mine burns 22 gph combined at same speed. Is the boat quieter or louder with diesels?

Very quiet. In fact at 25 kts you cant hear them. Only sound is the water

How great is that. What a true bonus to this repower.

At 3600 rpm my 5.7's all but drown out most natural level conversations. I've also tried additional sealing around the engine compartment hatches to help a little.
