Good morning all....

Well we have been contemplating upgrading from our little aluminum boat, and after months of sesrching, boat shows and ads, we found d the one. It's a 2013 Discovery 266. It has every option avsilable, canvas for all glass, camping top, bimini top, and kicker bracket. But the best thing is that is has 2 hours on it. They guy bought it as a toy and never put it in the water! So it is show room new. Even smells new. Love it, and should be great for around the Columbia River ares.

Any tips, break in pointers, anything, would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Steve

Welcome. Wow. That is like a brand new 266. I've always liked that design. When you get a chance, make a profile and customize your signature so we all know what you're running. I assume that has a 5.7 with a Bravo 3 leg? You mentioned Columbia river. Are you Portland?

Hi Steve and welcome. Nice looking boat! It does look new! There are a few 246 and 266 owners on here and a few threads that you will find useful. Just do a search for 246 and or 266 in the search engine. Here is one of the longest running threads. I have a 246 and I love this boat. You and your family will have some great times ahead.

Welcome aboard!!

I would recommend/suggest you request the impeller be changed. It is routine PM and should be done every few years. If this is a private party sale then I would get it changed soon after you close the deal. It is not very expensive to do and is a very important component of the cooling system.

Even if the motor has less than 2 hours? It hasn't been used much.

Yes, rubber dries out and becomes brittle over time even when not in use. Great score and welcome!

What a great looking boat. When the Discovery 266 first came out I would have bought one if I were in the market for a new boat. This last boat purchase was a used one.

So sea trial today. Started with a cold start. Let her warm up until block was nice and warm, then headed out on the Columbia. I was amazed how smooth and quiet she was. 3100 rpm was 26mph. Turned like a dream. Ran her for 30 min then drifted while I looked at motor again. No issues there. Ran her a bit more then loaded her back on trailer and back to lot. Then I did an extensive 4 hour survey. Ran all water and heater, all pumps are good so she will be ours on Saturday! For a 3 hour boat she is brand new. Plus I get the mercruiser platinum warranty until 2021!! For free!! Will post pics saturday.

Make sure your turn every knob and switch every switch. With a four hour survey you probably covered everything :woohoo: Only thing on my 246 that I remember not working was the horn! Make sure you give her a blast - the way they are designed thay swallowed up the rain and elements and stick - mine sounded more like a sick cow that eventually died! If you are given the chance take a garden hose and give her a soaking around the windows and hardtop to see if you have any leaks. Some have had problems with the 246 and 266 models. Another pump that often doesn't get checked is the sump pump. You need to throw some water down the shower drain to activate. Yes they do run really smooth and quiet! Love this boat! I have the 350 MPI B3 and from time to time when I'm cruising along and about to be overtaken by smaller faster runabouts I just throttle up a little and watch the faces of the captains drop as I pull away! Although short and only once with perfect conditions mine topped out at 72 km/h or 44.7 mph - they can move for a pocket cruiser!. Great bonus with the warranty! Sounds like you have a solid deal with many years of enjoyment to come!

Thanks for the info. I did the horn, it sounded a little sick, so will be changing that. I had read about the hard tops and leaks around the nav lights and such so tested that while we had the hose out filling the water tank. The owner was pissed as I wanted to pressurize the system, turn on the water heater, and run all pumps. Good call on the shower pump. It was stuck and kept running, but after cycling through it a few times it freed up and was automatic on and off. We pick her up Saturday, so will post when I get it!!!
