My engine will not idle. it will rev up, on return to idle it will stop. Makes it impossible to put in gear. Dirty Carb? Anyone know. Johnny5

There are actually two adjustments that accomplish two different functions:
  • A mechanical adjustment for idle speed, of which controls throttle plate position......
  • And the low speed fuel/air mixture screw.........
Both need to be adjusted, but the one that will control fuel/air will likely be the problem one!
This controls low speed fuel/air metering........ totally seperate from the high speed circuit.

If an adjustment makes little to no difference, you may have a dirty low speed circuit. This will likely involve pulling the carburetor apart.
Once in a while, some of the spray cleaners into the low speed circuit can have a positive effect........ Worth a try, I suppose!
If you do this, avoid a spray cleaner that contains MEK. IMO!
MEK is excellent if you are pulling it down and installing a new kit.
