Okay, this is not on my Bayliner but I have seen other 270 owners here with Bayliners so I'm going to ask :)

I have a 17' Glastron with a 270 outdrive which I lent to some friends to test-drive as they were very interested in buying it. I got it back and now the outdrive has no "down" functionality - up still works.

Any ideas? Perhaps one of the relays in the head of the motor?

woot! Replaced both relays and we're set. They're both standard automotive relays (except smaller) so it was pretty easy... rear one is missing the center pin (dpst) but they both can take the same relay.

One thing I noticed is the drive goes up/down but when its in the "down" position you can lift it all the way up by hand. Is this right - down is just handled by gravity?

Thanks!

Thanks!

The Reverse Latch is not catching for some reason.
No! Not right!
And yes, gravity!

This is a Lift Out unit only...... not a Trim Unit!

Googling "reverse latch" just brings me back to a post by you :)

So in forward/reverse there are two seperate latches which hold the drive down? I know its power tilt not power trim... is it wrong to use the tilt while the boat is in gear? (I think thats probably what happened to the latch if it is.)

Is this a repair I can do myself, or how much do you think it'd cost? Boat's only worth $2000-2500 so...

[*]See how smart Google is? :D

[*]Yep..... two latch hooks hold it down for reversing!

[*]Tilted up just a little for idle speed/shallow water Forward only is OK.

[*]Depends on if broken/which parts. The latch hooks can be changed without removing the entire unit...... pretty easy to do.

[*]Worth even less with drive damage from it slamming up too fast and hard!
