Have always used splitter to connect my 2 shore power connections...yesterday noticed that load 1 and 2 both light up when conneted but when I flip breaker to on load 2 light goes off and I have no power there...running parallel now instead but don't think I can run air conditioner that way...what should I be looking for. Thanks

Using the Parallel switch set to ON with shore power connected to Inlet 1 is the same as using an external splitter on my boat. I've never used an external splitter with my shorepower cable.

I was always told that was not enough power coming in for the air conditioner via parallel and damage could be done to it (not really sure if that is true)...the dock power is a single 50 amp...the y splitter is 50 to 30 amp

I would flip the two splitter ends and see if you lose shorepower 1- if you do it's a splitter issue- if it stays the same it's with shorepower 2 wiring on the boat. If this is the case remove the shorepower 2 receptical and check the connections there, then at the main breaker.

For years I only had a single 30 A so a splitter wasn't a useful option.

Now knowing you have a 50 amp supply changes the equation

And now that I reread your initial comments I understand that you were really dealing with a problem and not just a question.
