Throttle won't engage in forward or reverse. Just pops and revs like it's in neutral. How can the throttle control be removed without breaking anything? I can't reach the nuts in the back and it appears the upholstery panel is bolted on and can't be removed without ripping upholstery off. See attached pictures.

Can't make out your pictures; however, generally the panels are held in place by a couple of screws near the top that are hidden by a pleat in the upholstery and clips on the bottom.

For some reason the pictures are grayed out. See if this helps. Not sure about what's going on with the throttle but it feels like something's popping loose inside the control. Any thoughts?

Does anyone know why my posted pictures are grayed out? Anyway, I figured out that my shifter cable is locked so I don't have o do anything with the lever but I was wondering what could be locking it up. Am I probably gonna have to take apart the outdrive?

So your shift lever does nothing??
Lower shift cable could be the issue. More details would be helpful.

DAVE, just re read your issue. You can disconnect the lower shift cable at the shift bracket mounted to starboard side exhaust elbow and see if you can engage/disengage the drive manipulating the lower shift cable only. FYI the engine needs to be running to shift a Bravo!

When I disconnected the lower shift cable everything moved around like it should. The shift lever that goes to the outdrive won't move. This is the first time I've had to deal with the throttle so I may be misunderstanding the way it all works but when I disconnected the cable going to the back of the transom (the shifter cable?) everything moved right when I put the lever in forward and reverse. The cable coming from the lever and the throttle cable are moving right. That is, when I disconnected the shifter cable.

Hope this makes more sense.

Ok. Thanks. That makes sense because I've been trying to engage the lower shift cable without the boat running but the issue came up on the water so I'm assuming when I crank it and try to engage the drive it probably won't engage. Probably something in the outdrive?

Yea, the Bravo drive does not like to be shifted without the internals spinning (engine running)
Just to clarify, The lower shift cable is the short cable that connects at the shift bracket assembly and runs around the Y pipe (exhaust pipe) and down through the transom. If you've disconnected the lower shift cable from the shift bracket assembly and your helm control feels like it should then it's likely the lower shift cable is jambed, boroken, or corroded. The drive needs to be removed to replace that lower shift cable, also a good time to inspect/replace bellows, bearing, and u joint assembly etc.

Thanks again. I just replaced all that stuff last summer. Wish I'd thought of the shift cable then.
