kbar7 wrote: Hi All!!! New to the forum and have owned my '93 2859 for 7 months. I am a live-aboard in the Puget Sound area. I was curious if anyone has admin access to the bayliner2859.com forum. I can read all the posts there, but cannot see any pictures. (There is so much info there that I want to be able to access) I have been waiting to be added for about 7 months now. Besides that the previous owner has done a lot of mods to the boat, some that make sense to me, and some that don't (He was clearly amazing when it came to DC power and circuits... Not so much with plumbing). In the last week I have ripped out the walls and closet in the bedroom area to open up the space more. Next I plan on tearing up the kitchen table area and re-building it to fit my live-aboard needs a bit more. In the next couple of weeks I will be replacing the water heater with a 6 gallon Rheem and putting down vinyl wood flooring. I also get a new full size mattress and minimalist frame that I hope fit well in the aft sleeping quarters as I have been on the table ever since I moved in. I look forward to tapping into all of the knowledge here on the forum!!!

-Nick

Hey Nick - welcome aboard! Looks like you were shopping these at the same time I was. That looks like one of the boats I looked at in Everett. Hope it works out well for ya - kind of a chilly few weeks to be living aboard!

I think we need to get this back at the top of the list. I have a few projects to accomplish as soon as it warms up a bit. Ive been buying pieces and parts all winter so that I can get Reel Wild out for the shrimp opener in April. The big ticket items are a new heat exchanger, an electradyne pot puller and davit, and installing downriggers.

aknurse, I take it from you handle here you live in Alaska and talking about shrimping in April you live in Anchorage or the Valley. I live north of Homer and keep my boat in the Homer Harbor. If you get down this way would love to hook up with you to talk boats or go out fishing, ether on my boat or if you bring yours down we can take them both out and I could show you around if you do not know the area. O-Boy an I glad to see some of you 2859er's back posting.
I had a good start to my season last year but it went all to hell towards the end as my rebuilt engine took a crap so this year I'm starting out with a new rebuilt but it's being done correct this time. Southeast Engine Rebuilders in Ketchikan this guy is very clean, meticulous and precise in his work all tolerances are to the knats a but...
My last one I bought from US Engines in Kent, Wash and was a real piece of crap I only got 500 hrs on it before it blew apart on the inside.
I will be heading back home to Alaska on the 3rd of May to install new engine and get ready for a busy season.
I'm sure glad my girl is stored inside as the wind and weather has been bad this winter in Ketchikan.
I am ordering a new captains/helm chair also, can't wait to get it.
I'm out of shrimp and looked for some in the store and it was all from Indonesia and I won't buy that crap  so shrimp pots get ready.
My electric halibut reels are all tuned up and ready to fish.
Do you all know that every day you fish it's a day not counted against you life (free day) so I try and fish as much as I can.
I've been ice fishing all winter to keep my days going. :P But have to stop for a while to get back surgery and ready for summer. B)
Hope every one has a good summer and smooth sailing.
Skeeter

OK gents, the two threads have been combined. I'll leave the old title (with arrows now) for awhile. All the posts from both should be combined in chronological order, with their original thread titles.

Skeeter, I hope you do make it one of these winters, the dry desert air is good for what ails you. We'll keep the light on for you... B)

Well I've had my offer accepted and have put the deposit down. will be proud owner of a 2859 in May if all goes well.

Its a 1996 2859, with a 5.7LX mercruiser.
It was sold from new by the wharf who are now acting as brokers. I will be third owner. It has lived all of its life on the Thames, and looks very new. The mechanics haver known her from new and have serviced her and maintained her. There is a full history!
She has no GPS or Radar, but has a radio. She didn't need them on the river!
Engine has done about 4 - 500 hours from new.

I was able to get a significant discount on the price. Which I realise is steep for you US based guys.

So from all your comments here I decided on this rather than a slightly younger but more used 2885. I prefer the layout and interior on the 59.

Thanks, and..errr..permission to come aboard?

yes it is. For an old girl she shows litte wear. The mechanics reckon she's on;y had about 40 hours a year. A previous survey revealed a leaky window. They were removed and resealed.
