Some years ago I was looking at photos of 2859 for sale, and one of them showed an additional tank under the fish well. I saved the photo, but still do not know if it is a fuel tank, or maybe some MSD part. It looks like it will be easy to add a plastic gas tank in this location.

And here's a photo from another 2859 picture gallery, also showing a tank under the fish well.

I want to add a modern programable thermostat on my Bay 2355. Has anyone attempted this?

The previous owner cut the fish well out of that side altogether so it's wide open now. Definitely room for a tank there. Just hoping to avoid the rear weight.

Under the helm seat might be an idea. I heard a few guys say they have done that. But if these boats are already starboard heavy and I removed the ballast concrete from the port side I think a fuel tank on the starboard side would give the boat a list to that side again. So I am back to finding a tank that I can hopefully mount centered and forward somewhere.

Will take some more thinking to find a good spot and still be able to plumb it properly.

sketch tanks for the kind comments, the pictures that fishaman posted are great, now to fuel tanks and location I would not locate them forward it has more to due with possibility of safety-- fumes leaks and insurance co. don't like that. you could slit in to 2 tanks one port by the water heater the other under the fish well. I cut my fish well out was just a junk collector, when fishing there is a big cooler loaded partial with shaved ice on the swim deck that works well and keeps the mess out of the boat, one thing I might mention concerning my pods and weight is for every cubic foot of water displaced you gain 65Lbs of lift. O one more thing Moeller fuel Tanks come in many configuration and sizes for pricing Great Lakes Skipper. :cheer:

Just finished changing all the cabin and galley lighting over to LED. The old light fixtures were just plain ugly and not energy efficient. These 2859s sure have a lot of them. 17 altogether.......not cheap!

Very nice, it is on my to due list, what brand of light did you pick? going out now solve starter wiring problem, yesterday end of the of day, put the last wires on the starter and that's stuck under the manifold so you cant see, on tightening the nut it became easer to turn o shi, so pull the starter down so the problem can be solved. :woohoo:

Got them off of ebay the brand is EURO. You can get them in packs of 5. They aren't expensive. About 11 each. All the nice stainless ones are 30 and up! Adds up quick when you need 17. I bought 10 and they are much nicer than the old ones. Going to buy 4 nice stainless ones for over the table. I deleted the one light altogether and put really bright oval ones in the room under the cabin area.

Hope that starter repair isn't too difficult!!

Joel thanks for the information, I defiantly need to change my lights out, the old ones are so dim. As for the starter had to poll it and change out the solenoid, back in now need to protect some wires now and spray on a coat of Pam, your going to read that and think is he nuts, well no it turns out Pam turns tack free in 24hr or so and is a great corrosion protector, some of my spray equipment gets coated that way makes clean up simple.

I will give the Pam a try! Never would have thought of it but makes sense. I usually just spray the wiring down with WD40. But I don't think it would leave a "non stick" surface like PAM!

Well WD -40 is a kerosene product and will just evaporate, so no long term benefit, now my farm friends tell me WD- 40 soaked rags left in the truck cob will keep the mice away, we learn something new every day! :cheer:

Have you tried out the boat yet?? Wondering how it's working with the new motor and how it handles now that you removed all the concrete ballast?

No I have not, balance should be fine and I can move battery's to help since the 2859 and others in that group are tail heavy it can only help, by the way I cut out the fish box on the port side and it was heavy, note to self see what the weight is. Temperature outside 30 but going below 0 on Mon. don't have skies for the boat, got a heater going in the boat right now planning on some wiring changes today. Enjoy the thought of being on the water. :P

Removed the aft bedroom door altogether. Built Rod holders and a coat rack to hang on the wall that backs to the dinette. Door was kind of a waste of space. Good spot to break the rods down and stand them vertical for storage. The coats will cover the rods a bit but at least it's all out of the way. We also removed the mattress and headboard to make room for another Fridge/freezer and some totes underneath. Will use the dinette bed if we bring another couple people on board.

That is a good project works well if the lower bunk is not used, when fishing up North I have visitors for a week + so the lower bunk is my domain. :P

Talking about the lower bunk, as some of you know I have a repower in progress and over the holidays was able to put the old girl into the nice warm shop, wiring was the task combined the old engine harness with part of the one supplied by the engine vendor, so part of that was in the lower bunk area and entailed pulling the panels from the bottom end, starboard side that opened the black water tank and all the related hoses- some kind of smell O Shi. so one more project and $$$. Question is there an end? Yes I know the answer!!! :woohoo:

I hear you on the slightly sh***y odor after pulling the panels. Got the same thing going on. and I believe the answer to your question is known by all boat owners that love to work on their equipment! if you want it right you gotta work on it!

Yes so right, the positive is that one learns all the little gremlins and what it takes, to solve them. The good thing on that project ( if there is one) it has sat dry now for about a year plus.

Hi All!!! New to the forum and have owned my '93 2859 for 7 months. I am a live-aboard in the Puget Sound area. I was curious if anyone has admin access to the bayliner2859.com forum. I can read all the posts there, but cannot see any pictures. (There is so much info there that I want to be able to access) I have been waiting to be added for about 7 months now. Besides that the previous owner has done a lot of mods to the boat, some that make sense to me, and some that don't (He was clearly amazing when it came to DC power and circuits... Not so much with plumbing). In the last week I have ripped out the walls and closet in the bedroom area to open up the space more. Next I plan on tearing up the kitchen table area and re-building it to fit my live-aboard needs a bit more. In the next couple of weeks I will be replacing the water heater with a 6 gallon Rheem and putting down vinyl wood flooring. I also get a new full size mattress and minimalist frame that I hope fit well in the aft sleeping quarters as I have been on the table ever since I moved in. I look forward to tapping into all of the knowledge here on the forum!!!

We found a new logo for our boat. I refinished the propane locker box that sits on the swim grid and this will dress it up a bit. It looks like the owner when he isn't fishing!
