Picture posted, great, now back in to the hole need to tweak the seacock plumbing, installing a hatch in the starb. flat section next to the engine. What will I find, I bet some screws nuts, but better than the port side that had the concrete :woohoo: .

High guys. I'm looking at a 2859 with a fuel tanks that needs to be changed out. What kind of job am I looking at? Can I do it without removing the motor. Could it be cut out from the inside?

Yes concrete, for ballast I think it was 180 Lbs. on the port side my thinking is to offset the stove, waste tank? I removed it there is a 15 HP. kicker on my port swim step I would call that an offset.

I had a fuel tank leak in my 2859. The yard did the work and yes, you will need to pull the engine. You will need to cut out the bulkhead in the mid birth to get the tank out. It will be a major task. The PO did not keep the bilge dry and pin holes developed over time in the bottom of the tank.

I would like to add one more thing to install when replacing or repairing the tank, install a slide in low profile bilge pump under the tank.

Got into the concrete removal today. Used a snap on air hammer and a pointed bit. Took a bit at first but after the slab was split in half it started to go better. 2 hours and I figure I'm just over halfway. 93lbs so far.

No I don't think I will. I have 2 batteries and 2 trim pumps to mount there plus the new water heater making a hatch not really accessible. Plus I will keep another box for extra oil, antifreeze etc. Will be full on that side.
.
Finished removing as much as I could today. Still a small piece left under the water heater area. Couldn't get it all. Might be 20lbs left I figure. I got approx 155lbs out.

My removal count was 180 lbs., prior to the concrete I had moved the water heater forward, the 6 inches available all in the quest to move weight forward same was when I moved the fuel tank. :woohoo:

Was searching for windlass installation pictures, and came across some photos of heck of a well equipped 2859 at
www.rpmgroup.ca/view-details.php?id=532
Stainless arch, dinghy on top, commercial windlass, 20 hp kicker with hydraulic steering station, Rocna anchor, new 5.2 MPI engine, etc.
It looks like it was used to fish the west coast Vancouver island, thus plenty of grab rails in the cabin.
No wonder the asking price was 60K Canadian, and the boat is already sold.

Very nice boat! Has everything you could want except for may e an extended swim grid. Hoping to get mine close to the shape that one is in.

Fritzman how much room was there to slide the fuel tank forward? If I ever have to pull the tank I may put a bigger tank in to fill that space instead of sliding the stock one forward. I really want to add an extra tank somewhere If I can find a spot.

I HAVE A 70 GAL EXTRA FUEL in wheel house at the helm and my captains chair is mounted on top of it. It kind of offsets the extra weight on port side. I would be lost without it as it gives me another 70 miles or so, plus I can keep boat trimmed to my liking.

To answer sketch, I moved the tank forward 10 inches, I had to construct a new bulkhead forward that is directly adjacent to the fresh water tank, the plus was to see the OEM glass work  and see the need for a bilge pump under the tank, you may have noticed when at rest in the slip water flows forward and is trapped by the bulkhead forward of the tank that is why we have tank corrosion issues most tanks rot from the outside. Thanks for the post fishaman that is a great looking boat and the windless to drool over.
We could have a contest of the most changed 2859? :cheer:

I was going to mention that skeeter could pull the tank out, with his new engine build his mileage will go up! on my boat I added 2 tanks of 23 gal each.

The tanks where installed in pods out back of the transom.

This was during the construction and without the swim deck installed.

This next picture is the project 90% completed, the added capacity is great for longer runs, returning back from Ketchikan to Prince Rupert fully loaded to the gills by the way we where down to 30 + or- gallons.

Wow. That's quite the retrofit! Nice job! I'm on a kick of trying to reduce rear weight on my boat so I was thinking of trying to install a larger tank or plumb another tank in from the bow area somehow. Not really sure how to do it yet I've looked at custom made fuel bladders also.

Being that I have just removed the concrete from the rear port side and already have an aluminum. Extended swim grid I don't really want to add weight back there if possible.

Still thinking this one over. Would like at least a 40 gallon tank.
