Yes you are correct on the flow reduction, but the original inlet from the drive was tighter and 1.25 hose, I am running 1.5 inlet, one thing was to keep the plumbing low and below the waterline, I was concerned with a possible momentary loss of water at start up, if the strainer and plumbing are to high. Don't rightly know just guessing, so what is your thought? I am down to a hand full of things prior to the last install, I hope the engine been in and out 4 times so far. Had to order a bronze 1 in. to 1.25 90 from Fisheries, can not find that stuff in the hinterland, exhaust is at the machine shop for a modification so tie passes.

Fritzman, what are you doing for an outdrive?
Im wondering on these boats how they would behave at trawler/non-planing speeds with a dual prop outdrive. Duoprop or BIII.

Do you know the flow requirements for the motor? It seems logical for the strainer to be below the waterline. Each 90 degree adds an equvalent loss of 7.4 feet of pipe. Also 1.5dia can flow about 40% more than 1.25dia.

To answer green650first, my drive is new Bravo IIIX 220 ratio, as for running at hull speed I know with the 350 and Bravo II I needed to be at 1800 RPM to get away from the wandering. 7 to 8 Knt. So a 4 banger super fuel efficient diesel would work. In the last week or so a new member was looking at an older ranger- Bayliner with Nissan diesel power and it was in the middle of range country Ester Mt.

Loun thanks for the numbers, I will see what the pump is rated for and dig for information, the pump is a Jabsco with 1.5 inlet and 1.25 outlet hopping it will be sufficient flow. :P

One more step in my ongoing project, installed the aft bilge pump the OEM pump was to high to fit under the oil pan.
As the picture of the fuel filter prime pump assembly in relation of my drill indicates is big 16 inches high now where am I going to put that ? Yes it came with the Engine. :woohoo:

Welcome to the forum MUR, window resealing is a bit messy and picky job> the screws holding the windows in are from the outside, remove them and with 2 ore more putty knives slowly loosen the window frame till lose and remove the window as one unit, Prior to starting run 2 ore more strips of masking tape around the outside of the window frame to protect the gel coat. The black Butyl sealing tape needs replacing and I got mine from Amazon I will add pictures, PS check the inside where the gunnel rail runs and is fastened down one more spot for leaks.

Loun, the answer is some times, on holiday's I can, the window repair was in the winter, now I am in an old outside shed, the deal is the Boss needs to make room for the paying consumer's, not a retired freeloader.
As for the engine sill waiting for the machine shop to finish the Exhaust pipe it needs to go in before the power plant. Today is fix drain line from a septic tank on a rental, but tomorrow is the install of the monster fuel filter will be competed. :P

Hi All, I am just getting used to "new to me" 2007 2859.
Compared to 2452, it has a bit less under deck storage for things like fenders, crabpot lines and floats, ropes, etc.
Starboard hatch opens to a "fish box", and I do not plan to put any fish there, it goes into the cooler. It looks like cutting out the fish box will open a huge storage area beneath, which will serve great for all the stuff that I do not want to bring into cabin. Had anyone done it?
The potential drawbacks are:
- rainwater will have more chances to get into the bilge
- I will no longer be able to store my propane bottles and spare tank of gas in that area as it will be open to engine compartment.

Please let me know your thoughts on that, any input will be greatly appreciated.

I store my propane bottles and grill in the fish box. You could add a hatch to the floor of the fishbox for easier access to the area below.

If you remove the fishbox you will have to plug the drain hose thru hull.

I cut my fish box out lots of room, now I can reach the wiring, house battery's will be moved there, since adding the kicker more port tilt than earlier, note to the new 2859 owner see if you have concrete under the battery storage area!

My wife keeps a small bucket with a liner bag in a cabinet under the sink.
The space under the step is already taken by a very good heater installed by the previous owner...

Another question is, where everybody keep the crab pots?
The only way I can see them stored right now is on the swim platform, flattened and attached to transom. But I hate to put additional weight that far aft.

Trash under the cabin step, recycling can behind the fridge. I put a hatch on the vertical surface under the table to easily access this area. Not ideal but the options are limited.

Thanks for answering, my trash can sits in the locker under the circuit breaker panel and is a space waster, Loun under the step would work, but my heater connected to engine cooling is sitting there. In back of the fridge ? So I will look under the sink and see if a molded in container would be the right size to work? Fisharman take a look of what Sceeter3 is doing by piling them on the top.

I use a bungy strap to hold a small stainless lift lid trash can to the leg under the dinett table. Works good.

Well one more issue on its way to being solved, since I have installed a sea cock water inlet, and installing a block of plate at the at the hose connection for the water inlet from the lower unit, as recommended by Mercury, the engineering powers tell us to with block of plate installed we need to cut the hose from the lower unit water intake, so that water will flow and the gear case will be cooled. I did not like that so the plate has been removed and the hose from the old system reconnected to be a source for my wash down set up and a over flow through a bulkhead over the side allowing constant flow when under way. You all must see the constant change orders are retarding completion of the main engine install! :woohoo:

Mercury is not making a replacement hose, they have been dogging it seems like for ever.

Hi Mike I answer the P/M but had the wrong line in mind, what is the pressure that the fuel system runs on?

Need some info - my recently acquired 2859 can with a spare prop stored in a bag (the original aluminum prop). I failed to find out what size the prop nut is before I put it in the water.
Anyone know off the top of their head what size it is? Appears to be a 1-3/4 from what i can find
I need to buy a nut/washer to keep with it, as well as the correct socket.
