I have moved this to the owners list section as it seems we don't have one specifically for 2859's which is weird as we have so many owners of them here

Congratulation on creating your own owners list :)

Hi Alaska Spirit
I read your post about cruising from Haines south this summer.
I am in Ketchikan and during summer months I live on my 2859 most of the time so feel free to give me a call when you are in the area.
A few of us are going to make a trip around POW Id this summer sometime, we haven't finalized it yet, but that will be a real fun trip, maybe take a week, depending on the weather.
Maybe you could meet up with us around Pt Baker and continue on with us.
Just something to think about.

Sorry to hear about your health problems, hope all turns out well for you.
I am having some issues myself arthritic in feet and knees, need new knees but summer is coming so will wait until next winter to get new ones, just had bones fused in foot as they are wore out too. This getting old is the pit's but the alternative is a lot worse.

Just a few notes:

1. I have never had any real problems with wind/sail area, I suppose that I am used to it and take it into account.
2. I get the same fuel economy as 2859er with a 7.4 carb.
3. PROPANE COOKTOP!!! Where do you guys put the propane tank ? How did you pipe it ?. I really like this idea and am thinking about it myself
(after I replace the carpet/monkey fur). I also wonder about feeding a Mr. Heater from the same line.

I don't have any problems handling the boat with a little wind when docking going fwd but when backing into my slip with wind the bow is like a sail sometimes I wish I had a bow thruster...
I removed the alcohol stove then mounted my 2 burner propane on piece of counter top I had then designed it to fit into the same spot. I run the propane flex hose behind cupboards into storage area under the power panel using the small 2 1/2 gal tank. I remove tank to back deck when BBQing.
It's against USCG reg's to have propane tank inside of house. It needs to have a dedicated, sealed and vented to outside space.
It's a risk you may or may not want to take, if anything happens your ins probable will refuse coverage. But I take the risk, I keep tank shut off when not in use.

Hi Dan
I bought my 2859 in Homer, stayed there 2 yrs then moved to Ketchikan, I trailered my boat to Haines then put on ferry.
Fishing and weather is a lot better, plus thats where I grew up.
Also cheaper to travel south in winter, ferry to Prince Rupert then only 900 miles to Seattle
I agree lets keep in touch as I would like to meet up.

I like Petersburg area best and would of move there, but did not like being off the road system. I will be off the computer for a while because of the surgery Friday. Hi Dan
Wishing you the best of luck on your surgery.
Keep us posted after surgery.
Ketchikan being off road system is not very handy but it keeps most of the riff raff out.

That sounds real good Dan.
That's the secret to quick recovery keep moving. My foot surgery I had to set and keep foot elevated for 6 wks. and that's hard to do for an active person, but I'm up and walking like normal now and you will be to soon.

I only had one issue when in my marina one time...we have shallow water (only a little over 3 feet in the area all the boats travel through, 2 feet outside of that), and one time I had a strong gust of crosswind just come through and nearly push me into the bows of other boats in the marina. I had no choice but to goose it and churn up some bottom, but that's more the marina's fault than the boat. I've rarely had any trouble where I can have the outdrive all the way down when docking.

Needless to say I'm probably leaving that marina for this season due to them lying about getting it dredged for 2 years now.

Anyway, on the not6e of modifications...I'm adding a grabrail to the stern like the 289s have and considering adding a cleat to the stern for mooring. Anyone have a good location for it, or recommend against it? I just don't like having to run my ropes under my canvas in fluctuating water levels (docked in a lagoon off a river). My boat came fairly well outfitted, so I haven't added too much, but may add in a new Garmin GPS unit.

Hi 9986mkoh, I fabricated a aft rail from a wrecked Sea Ray bow section as the picture shows, great to grab on to when boarding in windy condition and my barbeque fits into one of the holders on the railing with the small table next to it, the outside locarion is so splatter is on the out side.

Icewaker you had to ask. I must admit to having dealt with composites for 40 years and surviving the itch and having turned the business over to my Daughter, I am still playing with the stuff. When I get to posting that project it will be so that can be duplicated.

My mooring cleats are located on the bullworks need the stern, they are plenty strong and easy to get to and handy when harpooning big halibut to tie them off to.
I use the Garmin 740s GPS and love it easy to use and see.
Maybe some pictures would help if you have any.
