Totally understand at least your project is completed and in the water, on the other hand I am still in the bowls of my hull. Congratulation on a fine job. :P :P :P

Hey Fritz,

I replaced my 454 a few months back, at the tune of $8300. Been dealing with injector issues ever since. The latest is the rusted fuel pressure pump and fuel line just below the rail. just the parts are about a grand... arghhhhh was looking for my last post to see if anybody here can get the parts cheaper...
I gota post some pictures, old cylinders/pistons etc and then the new re-man block.

Hi Mike Question on the rusting, inside or outside? If internal could be the ethanol - alcohol sucks moisture and will cause corrosion damage.

In the repower as always there are issues that come up one, for me was lining the engine up with totally new aluminum channel over the stringers, that hat to be cut down to brig the height in line. So it was necessity to rough line things to a point that it will only take a small tweak to install the new drive, to start with I installer a fence tube on the old drive spline shafted end about 5 ft. forward giving me a target point to aim for, next was a section of PVC pipe that fit tightly in to the pulley with end caps a 1/4 in. hole drilled and a rod with pointed end as spear- marker.

Has anyone figured out a good way to plug the drains in the two wells in the back deck? Would be a great spot to keep crab/fish, but I'm thinking a cork in the top would easily get knocked out.

Mine only has one well in the sbd floor. You can put a ball valve in the drain hose under the deck.

I had only one well, now cut out since I am moving the battery's to that side and the fresh air intake will be located in the aft section of that compartment. :P

Down in the dumps this weekend, Exhaust outlet did not line up, so the engine had to come out one more time, no hair left. :woohoo:

Loun just noticed the new hatch picture, would be nicer access to reach the window fasteners? As always good job. :P

Access to the screws is an added benefit. Gonna store the pfd's in there, decent amount of "free" space. Made the seatback removable. Lots of space on the helm side under the throttle as well.
Sorry to hear about your exhaust outlet.

Thanks for the input I will copy that, one of my future projects is to pull the top at lower window joint, my dash all cracks the first models where gel coated BLACK so the cracks.
So to the exhaust I need to add a 90Dg. at the outlet since the muffler is in the old battery location.

One more little task competed on my major engine repower, moved the trim pumps, since the where block the exhaust outlet. :)

I made a bracket out of starboard for the trim pump. The metal in the oe bracket disintegrated a few years ago. The shiny white bilge looks great. Whats your target install date for the motor?

I had my 454 rebuilt with minor cam change. Looking to reach full power with less rpm. Fuel economy hopefully.. changed out the intake manifold to a 180 degree sweep, added semi-tuned exhaust manifolds, and a Edelbrock 750 cfm marine carb... so far the engine purrs like a lion at rest but having an electrical issue with ignition. Won't run up to full rpm. Carb and throttle cable working fine, hitting on all cylinders, timing set correctly , so trying a new coil in the morning... Hoping I have a leaky weak coil...

Sounding like the extra $$ I spent on a crate engine and installation was well worth it. Was only out of the water 3.5 weeks total.

keithjabber. The thing is I am one of the nuts that needs it to be just so, remember it started with moving the gas tank forward and I keep finding other things to address. :woohoo:

I understand that completely. Typically the way I am. But with work, family stress and a billion other things going on, this time I just wanted to get er done and back in the water to miss as few opportunities as possible to boat and fish. Summer already seems to go in the blink of an eye in the Chicago area.

I bought one of the stainless ones on eBay. For some reason these boats eat those brackets.

Back to the project, installed seacock plumbing to the point that the engine needs to be in, to complete and a bit of painting as I go along. :P

Looks like a real "project" I have a 2001 - 454 with less than 300 hours. Hope I never need to replace the engine. Engine runs great, out drive seems to take a beating here on the Mississippi [ St Louis] to much crap in the river. No matter what you do you hit stuff.. There is more 2859 discussion here than on the 2859 site ...

Have you considered the flow loss from the sharp 90 elbows on the intake plumbing?

Cant wait to see the motor installed.
