Flemming no Price from Skeeter. 3 years back I picked up a 25ft bayliner and short moter home for trans port to Great Falls Mt. The charge was about 800.00 . The plan is for myself is to splash the Boat in Prince Rupert and run on to Ketchikan, leaving the Truck and Trailer in Rupert, hopfuly in a storage yard. One of the problems Ketckican is Trailer storage is short, my trailer must be 36 plus long, its a 5th wheel 3 axle unit. Fritz

Hi Icewaker
I drive to Rupert then ferry to Ketchikan about a 6 hr ride.
I take most of my summer supplies with me so I wind up having a full pickup load.
I plan on leaving my place in Montana May 3-4 spend couple of days with daughter in Idaho then on to Everett, Wash to grandsons for couple of days, get some marine stuff then up the hiway.
If I have time in Rupert I'll check around for Fritzmans trailer storage. maybe save him some time doing it.

Skeeter maybe see you on the way home then. Will you be on your computer during the summer? Now that the weather is improving I'll be spending less and less time in my office starting with our Kitimat trip in about 10 days. But I'll try to check this blog from time to time. Hope you and Fritz a great summer sure nice he can meet up with you to learn some of what goes on there. Flemming

Flemming, I hope you have a good time in Kitimat, I haven't been there in over 40 years then just for a couple of hours getting a passenger declared dead by the Mounties, that's last time we ever had anyone die in Canada. LOL
How long you going to be there? Maybe I could meet up with you on your way home.

Skeeter we will probably be home by may 1-4th depending on the weather, how fast our ice is melting and how small the boat is getting to be. Stay in touch and let me know when you are going to head south. Are you going to be on your computer or do I need to give you a phone no.? Flemming

I will be on phone 406-925-1183 and computer part of the time depending on service.
Looks like I will miss you in Prince George then you'll be home before I get there.
Maybe on my south bound voyage.

Hi all I have been rapped up in projects, my Boat planning wiring for my new windlass and on the Tour Boat need to order all the bits for add on A/C going from 60k To 120.k BTU output. Skeeter if you find a parking spot in Rupert that would be great, I remember someone mentions Smithy’s? What is in Port Edwards? There is a marina and ramp on the map? Fritz

When I left my truck and trailer in Rupert in about 06 I left it at a propane sales business a short distance from the marina. I can not tell you the street name , but it was on the street that goes in front of the marina. If I remember right. They just parked me in the yard out back of the main office, it was a fenced area. Can not remember the price. The main thing was it was handy. Dan

:) After looking over Fritzmans boat and the opening hatch he put in the inner bulkhead in the strb bulwarks to create some storage area, I am thinking about doing the same thing to my boat, but I am just wondering if putting in a 24"x 13" hole will weaken the structure or not?
It having a double bulkhead to hold the cap rail I can't see how it would, but better to check than just start cutting into the vessels structural design.
Thanks

Hey guys,

I have a 1995 2859 that I'm looking at replacing the 3000 series shifter with something else. I'm thinking the quicksilver 4000 because it's reasonably priced. Kind of sucks that you can't find the originals anywhere for ease of swapping. Does anyone have any shifter recommendations? The neutral button sticks on mine sometimes, and I'm fixing it for the guy I sold it to. If I can't find a fix for the shifter after taking it apart, I'm just going to buy one and put it in. Any help with this would be really appreciated.

Someone that has done the engine swap may still have the stock shifter. (possibly Alaska Spirit or Enevoldsen) I don't have mine. Flemming

Yeah, if anyone still has their stock shifter that worked well I'd be interested in that. Or even a newer model that someone replaced. I'm even at the point where I'd buy another newer model for $300 or whatever it costs and do that as long as it fits the same template. I understand that there are some that require new cables, which isn't a big deal either. There just aren't any clear answers I could find for replacements/repair of the Quicksilver 3000 Classic throttle assembly.

I replaced my control/shifter several years ago. There is an old thread here with the info, I will try to track it down.

Found some of the old threads on this:

www.baylinerownersclub.org/index.php/for...ting-troubles#190390

www.baylinerownersclub.org/index.php/for...ery-impressed#254926

Telefex CH-1752 is the exact one I went with.

So if I understood that correctly, you replaced the unit with that Teleflex unit using the same cables? And it also covers the same mounting hole as the original 3000? I just want to check before I order it.

Thanks,
Mike

Same cables YES.

NO to same mounting holes. Had to cut a new mounting hole in the sideboard.

There is a mounting template in a pdf in one of the threads i posted earlier.

Took me about 4 hrs. You can print out the template hold it over your current mounting and make sure you can cut and drill the correct size without too much work before you order anything.

Thanks a lot, I ordered the same shifter the same night you responded. $325 from go2marine was the best I could find with the tilt and trim buttons.

I replaced my last year with the Teleflex 1700 and after using most of the season in went bad on me and wouldn't shift into reverse, and it really didn't work very well right from the get go, so I called the company that makes them and they sent me a new unit. i was very impressed with the spokesperson I dealt with and they have free replacement for 2 yrs.
It was easy to install plus you don't have to replace the cables.
Now I am happy again. :)

Well, the new owner will get to enjoy the one I just put in. It was part of the deal selling it, and he paid for half. I'm happy with that, I just wish I'd have put it in last year and got to enjoy it some. It did take about 4 hours to complete with running around and grabbing some wire connectors, and also having to epoxy in a piece of plywood over the one hole that was there from the old shifter. Otherwise very easy install.
