Hi, everyone I know this is a popular model and I love to see and hear about boats that are the same model as mine.

I have been stuck in a storm 40 miles out to sea in the North Atlantic at a place called jefferies ledge. I was fishing in 1 to 2 ft seas when the storm blew in. I drove 25 miles in well over 10 ft seas, every wave came over the windshield. Everytime I hit I thought the boat would split in half. Thank god for self bailing decks. To keep a long story short the boat brought me all the way home and never skipped a beat. I have never been that afraid for my life ever. I owe my 1989 Bayliner 2155 my life. any other good stories, pics or ?s.

Good Luck with the boat. Great to hear from another 2155 owner.

I wonder how that thing goes with a 4 banger. With a few guys in mine I have to use the trim tabs to get on plane and it has a 5.7lt V-8. With just me and the wife it gets up on plane with no help.

What year is yours?

What type of work are you looking at?

mine is a 87 and here is what I have done already in just 2 weeks of ownership.

outside--

*took all the decals off her and compounded to remove any visible signs of them.

*re-striped her with only a few stripes and then vertGlased it. Looks like a shiny new boat.. (this stuff works great and looks awesome!!!)

Inside--

*tore all the carpet out and installed new grey carpet.

*took out wanna-be cooler/fridge thing and put shelves in its spot with a new door.

*had the stereo relocated and new outdoor KHL speakers put on deck. Down in the cabin 2 fosgate 6x9 and 2- 10 inch subs on a boss amp.

*hardwood floor the sleeper floor and started the bathroom.

*cushions have been dropped off to be recovered in grey fabric to match the rest of the boat's inside.

*installed 2 vector 1000 watt inverters.

things left to do:

put in a flatscreen/dvd combo
put in microwave
buy genny to run micro
install a electric water pump for outside fresh water washdown
bought a bimini top off ebay once it gets here install it.
put my name on the boat and the new bayliner decals.
repaint the outdrive- (its nasty looking)
install the grill I bought from overtons

then sit back and enjoy it!

I will post some pics of what has been so far tonight.

Yes it is correct. Mine is a 1989, not sure if the 87 is the same. I have to drains on each side of the rear. There are two holes under the engine cover and they bail out on each side of the transom. Then there is one on the step right before you enter the cabin which bails out the sb side of the boat.

Self bailing means- all the water on the decks drain out threw holes before the water goes into the bilge.

example- if I run a hose on the outside deck anywhere. I can leave it on all day and never get any water in the bilge.

Are you sure? If you lift your engine cover, there are not 2 holes where the rear of the engine cover sits? Are there any outlets on the transom of the boat, like right above the trim tabs? I would just be surprised that you have the one, but not the others.

I just looked at 2 1988 2155's for sale and both have all three holes.

If you lift your engine cover and look where the rear two corners sit when closed you should see the holes. If you look at the back of the boat right above each trim tab you should see the outlets. 1 on each side.

There was someone on here that sent me the manual to the 5.7 Cobra, via e-mail. Not sure if he has the one for the 5.8. I will shoot him a pm and see if he can help.

Why Is The "2155" Model Number Rarely Listed In Bayliner Material? Is There Anything Unique/unusual To A 2155?

The Cieras were changed from XX50s to XX55s in 1988. It was just a marketing change, there was no significant changes to the line. The model before the 2155 Ciera was the 2150 Ciera. It was done to differentiate between the same-hulled 2150 Capri.

Later they redesigned it to become the 2255 Ciera, and then later still the 2355 Ciera in the mid 1990s.

I just bought one. And was needing just general info. I was looking for someone that has the full swim step or where to get one. I need the side cabin window. And what is the best of the best lubricants to use if i have a 5.8 cobra. Like oil... should i use gas treatment with 91 octane...What are some of the most common things that go wrong and some preventative maintenance to assure that my wife and 18 month old son are not pissed at me if we break down.

If you have a OMC Cobra you may not find not too many places still work on them because OMC is no longer in business. Unless you in an area that has lets say Four Winns Dealership. Four Winns used OMC's right up until the time Volvo Merged with OMC for a brief time. Talk to people at your dock to see who the best shops in your area that still work on them. Its not the end of the world by any means. There many OMC's out there everyday. If this link was not already posted its good resource for part info.

http://www.sterndrive.info/

Make sure your boat is tuned up and all electrical conections are sound. 89 octane will work fine 91 is better. Oil is subjective call but depending climate 20w40 works fine

OMC Cobra's are fine they have shift cable problems from time to time. Most shops are accutely aware of these and have experiences in this repair. Other than that its just normal stuff. 5.8 motor is Ford marine block 351 Windsor. Not as common as 5.7 Chev used on many boats. OMC used both Chev and Ford blocks.
