I asked the same question for 2459 / 2460 owners, only got 1 reply.
Maybe we should ask for "Hardtop Trophy Owners" maybe that would shake out a few replies.

Hello, we have a 1988 2160 hardtop, just brought home from Maryland. It did not have any papers. Owners manuals for the boat and motor ( 3 L omc Gm so i am told ).

I don't work on motors, unless made from wood.....Carpenter. All my other boats have had outboards. So this is my first i/o.

I do work on my boats i did all the glass work on my Cape boat, roven and mat glass work . And i do all my regular maintenance, would just like to have more of a guide to the things on the boat

Does anyone know where i can get the papers that might have come with this year boat. There are a lot of things that i am not real sure of in the boat. I have been finding some of the papers for items on the net......Windless ( 600 horizon ), al stove etc.

Thanks in advance

Just got my 87 2159 in oct had to have it winterize before I could realy go over it but I have 2 things I just don't understand #1 is the head found to velves behind head but it looks like that run out a hole in the front bottom side of boat. Should there be a holding tank someware? #2 also don't understand livewell under seat it has a hole half way up on the side that goes outside of boat I don't know if it is above or below waterline and it has a hole on the bottom. Is one for water in and water out? Should there be a pump or is this by graverty? Should there be a plug in 1 or not? Shure don't want to sink. No papers, manuals have to learn one thing at a time this spring but could use some help on the to things. Thanks.

Mclark :

I just picked up a 2160 1988 Trophy from Maryland and had no papers with it. I found an old site that said Bayliner would send them to you. I thought this is an old posting ,but i tryed it anyway. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .This is bayliner themselves.I sent them all my info and before the end of the day they sent me the owners manual for my boat that came with it when it was sold. Also told me more info about my boat. It was 40 some pages long , you just have to print them off yourself.

I have just starting to read to find out things about my boat. I thought it had a 55 gal tant but it hase a 65 gal( great more money to fill )

Hope this helps.

ps: i have to find papers for the i/o drive myself, because OMC is not in business anymore. I think i found them on Ebay. will see if it is for my motor when they show up.

Sorry! I don't have a plumbed in head or a live well on my 2159.

1. If the toilet was legally installed in the USA it shoould have a holding tank. Just follow the lines to where they lead.
2. The live wells in my bass boat have an hole near the top of the tank that provides incoming water via an electric pump on a timer. There is a hole at the bottom of the back wall of the tank which drains the well. A stand up pipe plugs into that drain hole and sticks straight up while in use. Once the water reaches the top of the pipe it drains out the pipe via gravity allowing fresh water to continually flow through.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info. I will look closer at the head this spring. Asfar as the livewell ther is no stem on bottom hole however it looks like it runs to the front of the boat ware there is another hole in the bottom of the hull with a shut off velve. Woundering if water comes in from front bottom of boat with open velve and out the side hole. Has anyone herd of this? Or have a livewell like this?

On my 2459 which is the larger version of your boat, the upper and lower holes are connected together by hose and a tee and go through the side of the hull just above the water line.
The upper hole is the overflow, the lower is the drain. When you want to keep water in the well, plug the lower hole.
Mine has a filling pipe on the top which is connected to a pump at the transom, see my thread under Tech Questions titled Trophy, what's missing ?

i was looking at you album, great boat by the way. Your rod holder on the hardtop. Did you have to through bolt it with backer plates or just into the hardtop, and if just in the top is there much movement in the rod holder.

Thanks

No backer plate, 3 machine screws on each side, heads down.
I made all the holder parts, all aluminum and each one can be removed, rotated front to rear and moved anywhere along the rail.
The rail is nothing more than a 1-1/4" diameter, stainless steel ADA bathroom grab rail from Lowes.

I plan on making and selling some of the holders in the near future.

Re: movement, it is very solid on the top. Actually, more so than expected.

What stops the rod holders from piviting on the grab bars, or twisting. In your picture i do not see through bolts going through holders and the grab bar. It looks like a u channel. If you had a close up picture of attachment that would be great.

Sorry for all the questions. Just around here i cannot find one to fit our style hardtop. Because they cannot hang down past roof, too hard on my bald head. LOL

I used the same kind of grab bars on my cape boat for getting up on the sides to walk to the bow.

Thanks

The tubes are aluminum, the tube to rail mount is a 2 piece aluminum collar, 1/2 of the collar is TIG welded to the tube (rod holder) and stainless stud / plastic thumb knobs clamping the collar halfs together.
There is a stainless pin across the bottom of the tube for a rod stop / anti rotation.

Hey there mates just stumbled into the 2159/2160 corner of the site. Nice!

My rig is a 1988 2160 set up for great lakes salmon and walleye fishing. It is currently receiving a new base 5.7 gm motor to replace the aging stock 5.0. I have a mercury 9.9 remote pro kicker waiting for installation upon my boat's return from Michigan Motorz in Detroit. I'm trying to figure trying to figure out whether the swim platform mount is going to hold the four stroke.

Wired for four cannon HS downriggers and two cisco fishing systems planer board reels. Electronics are ok, Lowrance 510c / Garmin 182 / Fishawk 840 w/new model probe. Rocket launcher off the head banger (errr...hardtop) Led deck light. Variety of Tite Lok and Craig rod holders.

Always chasing some leak or problem but think I've got her nice and rigged at this point. Gonna update the album as she gets ready for Spring.

Jarrett

Jarrett, i meant to ask if you have any insde shots of your boat.

I need the back canvas (blue sunbrella ) that you have on yours
but i just have to bring my boat to the guys that can make them.
And that is a long trip just to have them keep my boat while they
measure and sew.

Can't wait till she is back in the water.

No inside shots yet...upolstery is stock and in good condition. Gonna make a complete album when splashed this spring.

My canvas cover is pretty shot. I'm amazed it has lasted this long. Gonna need a replacement or serious repairs in the next year or so.

Took our 1991 2159 out for first time this weekend, launched Friday after work and returned Sunday. We absolutely love the layout of this boat...it's such a perfect pocket cruiser and my wife wonders why they no longer make a comparable 21' hardtop (my theory is that they want people to spend more on a 24' instead).

Our boat has the 3.0 L mercruiser and with the existing 16" prop it is clearly over propped for the load we were carrying (full fuel and water tanks, 9' dinghy w/ 6 hp OB, weekend worth of food/drink/ice), so I'm going to put on the other 14" prop that came with the boat and expect that should give us full RPMs.

As expected, the ride is wonderful, don't even have to touch the throttle to cruise through large waves/wakes that I used to have to come off plane to take in our old 16 footer. Only complaint so far is having to close door every time to get into the cooler and storage compartment under the sink, but if that's the price to pay for getting so much in a 21' package, I'll live with that!

Next project is to mount up our Yamaha T9.9, Then I'd like to get a nice GPS / Fishfinder to replace the original (and useless) Apelco FF, been looking at Lowrance Elite-5 series if anyone has suggestions on similarly sized & priced units I'm all ears.

I recently inherited a 1989 Bayliner Trophy 2159. It spent years in a junkyard and is a real "project" boat!

I'd have thought that the boat would be badly underpowered with the 3.0. That's a lot of boat to push around with that size of an engine. The smaller prop will definitely help. I'm running that same prop size with the 4.3 on a later, and lighter, Trophy, and would not want any less power. Great looking boat though!
