Better to soak the engine in degreaser like Simple Green making sure you zip lock the carb after taking the flame arrestor off. Be careful not to blast the engine with a full stream but only on a light to medium mist from a HOSE to rinse her off. Let her dry overnight to ensure wiring is dry. Next day when you see it is dry, start the engine to make sure she is running OK. If after you cleaned the engine you find any rusted metal (and you will, look especially at the engine mounts), use a spray can of POR15 rust prevention paint. That will seal the rust and neutralize it. Then spray with CRC or some other engine metal protectant that is OK to use on all engine metal and wiring.

Then you will have a nice clean engine and hopefully you used the hose and simple green to clean the bilge (or some other high price bilge cleaner/degreaser)...

When done, it should look like (or better) Also note the engine was wet in the photo as well as clean water sitting in the bilge which I vacuum out:

David, just subscribe to this thread and you too will receive emails when a replay is made...

Just go to this thread and select "subscribe" under "thread tools" and then check the box that says to email you immediately when a response is made...

Hopefully, you also went into your preferences and selected newest threads first so you don't have to drill down to the last/newest thread?

I wish it was. Unfortuately, g-mail is a banned e-mail provider for this site.

When I registered, I had to use my old CenturyTel account to receive the confirmation e-mails. Even after I was a member I tried to point at g-mail without any success. Evidently a spammer used a gmail account to flood BOC and the mods said "no more".

Here are a couple of pics of an EASY mod I picked up from Doug (thanks big guy!). I added 2 jump seats to the backs of the main seat pedestals. When folded down they clear the engine hatch, and when up give us 2 more comfortable spots to plop.

Yea, the pics are funny sometimes,,,,,I've not figured that out completely yet! You can always use 'manage attachments' at the bottom or even load to webshots or similar & link to 'em.....

I've posted lots of images sourced from various other spots, but this is curious. I've got the permissions wide open on them.... Hopefully, one of the mods will answer my PM.

Sarah, what "manage attachments"?

Very nice job David!!!!

Well since I subscribe to this thread, I got the link to the photos and I like what you did. Those seats seem a bit wider and thinner so they must clear the hatch with no problem at all. With them deployed, I can still open the hatch a tad to look inside but that's about it. Time to put the fold down handle in the center of your hatch now... Such a PITA to grab one side or the other to lift the hatch...

Hopefully this will link to David's album...

Thanks Doug. Never thought about posting the bare link.....

Sarah, no shame allowed here! I'm getting most all of my inspiration from Doug. As far as the cleaning goes, it just shows that I have no life. :p

For example, a scene from my life:
"Hey Babe, whatcha wanna do today?"
"Oh I dunno. Whatchoo wanna do?"
"Oh I dunno. Hey, wanna go clean the boat?"
"Sure. Sounds exciting."
:drama

If you've seen the other photos in my album you've gotten a hint as to the current project.

http://baylinerownersclub.org/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=41505

I'm replacing that Uniden VHF with a Standard Horizon 5500GX. The Uniden is unusable at any speed over 3-4 mph as no-one can understand anything coming over it. The 5500 has a better speaker with adjustable audio settings and most importantly is BlueTooth capable. The 5500 is larger than the Uniden and doesn't have a "surround" faceplate, so I'm fabricating a faceplate to cover the entire front of the overhead cabinet. It's black crinkle ABS so the radio and a Xantrex LinkPro will both match it (the Xantrex will come later this fall after I save up some more pesos). I've got the template made and will be cutting the plate today.

Wish me luck as I've never worked with 1/4" ABS before. Fortunately I have enough to do a second faceplate if I screw up the first. Pics to come.

After reading that thread on navigating in fog, what's the consensus on radar reflectors for our boats? Do we need them? I'm thinking with a big honkin' V8, metal window frames and such we stand out pretty well but I have been wrong before (once, anyway ;)).

Sounds like a heck of a project with the ABS plate. Why not just cut a face plate the size of the new radio and a separate one for the Xantrex? If you need to get behind either one, both have to come out.

As far as a radar target, we show up pretty good as you so aptly since we all have big window frames around the cabin and cockpit now.

But maybe a honkin big radar reflector mounted about 6 feet above your cockpit would look just fine on your boat... :kidding You could be on to something... :worth

On a side note, I picked up the trailer today after they replaced the left rear studs that busted off and took the zerk fitting to grease the spindle. Boat comes out of the H2O this afternoon when the tides are better then we go to an outside wedding of a former student... such a busy life... ha...

Oooh yeah. I could wrap it like a barber pole, too. We be stylin'. :D

I'm glad to hear that the trailer tire episode resolved itself without too much grief. That could have been ugly.

Have fun at the wedding. At least it'll be a beautiful day for it.
