Close to closing the deal on a 1996 3587. Only survey issue was a above normal moisture meter reading along the water line on the hull. The surveyer then used his tap method and said all was solid no evidence of delamination.
We hate to pass on a nice one owner boat because of this. Looking for some perspective, thoughts on these results. Read all the nasty opinions re Bayliner but wanted to investigate them anyway. Quality seems very comparable to other brands we have looked at. Love the layout and functionality. Feels much larger.
Please share your thoughts.

There could be a slight amount of moisture on the gelcoat that gave a slightly higher reading.
From experience I can use a small plastic tapping hammer and tell if there is an abnormal amount of moisture in a laminated hull especially with a balsa or wood core like a deck.
I tap and use a moisture meter.
Using a moisture meter and tapping is taught at the Chapman Marine surveying school in Florida.
It seems like the surveyor knew what he was doing, take his word for it.

Never heard of a Bayliner hull having a problem. Sea Ray, yes but Bayliner doesn't have the same kind of hull.
Transom possible but not the hull.

Thank you! Going to proceed with it. Dealer is going to do engine compression tests, full wrap, store, full detail in the spring, and oil change.
Feeling comfortable with the purchase.
