We'll probably head down later this week.

We've had someone aboard who was able to start the generator and check things over, and indeed it seems that we have survived with minimal damage. So many other boats in the area faired so much worse.

We've been updating the blog and YouTube channel regularly with our evacuation updates - anyone interested in the latest pictures can check them out there.

Now - lets just hope Maria stays far away!

We faired amazingly well - especially considering how many boats nearby were sunk or severely damaged.

The Bayliner 4788 is built like a tank, it seems.

We've tested everything and Y-Not seem to be completely seaworthy - but there was plenty of small bits of damage and lots of debris (and clogged drains) to clean up. Now we are trying to figure out whether or not it is worthwhile to go ahead with an insurance claim, and how to proceed with repairs.

Damage ranges from stained hallway carpet and some water damaged interior wood (the flybridge hatch leaked badly), to spiderweb cracks (cosmetic?) in the fiberglass on the side deck, to having one of the black tank vents sheared completely off.

There may also be damage to the gellcoat and bottom paint too - we spent the heart of the storm pounding into a wooden piling, and rubbing back and forth against it.

We also have some electrical issues on the flybridge - some switches are now inoperable, and the chart plotter (which was stored indoors) will no longer power up when plugged in.

Each individual item seems likely to be minor, but it does seem like it might all add up.

This is all absolutely new to us - we've never really dealt with the ins-and-outs of marine insurance before, or getting repairs handled.

But overall, we are extremely thankful to have a functional and livable home - when so many have lost everything.

That is great to hear. Regarding the insurance, you will need to check your policy. My policy has a different "named storm" deductible then the normal deductible. I thinks it's in the 5k range. Your issue may be less then your deductible unfortunately. Regardless, I would make a claim to see what they say.
