I'm fed up of climbing over the dock aline when my cleats don't line with dock cleats. I've seen a Whitecap retracting cleat that would work great on the center of my swim platform. But, can't think of a good way to determine the depth of the platform. Bolts are only 1" 7/8th" long, from just a 'feel' the platform seems to be deeper than that beyond the lip. Anyone got a clever way to measure, without drilling a hole, or know how deep the platform is on a 4087? Haven't been able to find a retracting cleat with longer bolts.

Many thanks.

Take a couple of feet of 1x3 and make a laminated "C" so it will fit over the top & bottom of the step. The plan would be to clamp the upper leg to the top/flat side of the swimstep. The, knowing the gap created but the laminated section you can compute the thickness of the swimstep at various point by subtracting the measured gap from the known created gap.

Do you have transom tie downs on your stern under the swim platform?
My 32xx had those and I ran a line to those so my platform wasn't obstructed by an annoying line.
By the way, my transom eyes were vertical oriented and on one side it came a little loose due to the side pull. Lots of leverage gets put on those, I'm not sure a swim platform would be up to the task of that force.

Just installed an under mount swim ladder and used three inch stainless bolts on my 1996 3587. This length left approx 3/4 inch for nuts.

Good luck

Robert
