Am replacing 5/16 chain in a 32xx. How much 5/16 chain will fit in that tiny locker if there is nothing else in the locker. Thank you much.

Do you mean the flip up on deck locker? You're better off drilling a hole to the locker forward of the bunk. You'll get over 150 feet there. If you drill make it the size of a PVC pipe that you can seal in the hole.

Uncle Bob thanks for the quick reply. It's the bow locker under my Lofrans Tigres winch I'm wondering about. I can see I'll need a broom stick or something to push the pile down no matter what. Would rather not use the starboard rope locker just because the boat already leans that way.

I had 150' of 5/16th and 100' of 1/2" nylon three strand. Had to knock the pyramid at around 60'. Had to add a latch to keep the door from opening. Added Plexiglas halfway up the opening so stuff didn't spill out.

I have 200' in the locker.
I have to knock the pile once in a while.
The position of the windlass is critical to ensure that the chain is properly dropped.
I keep a spare anchor with 30' of chain and 200' of rope in the deck locker.

I did what Uncle Bob was talking about. I cut a 3 and 1/2 hole in the bottom of the chain locker that is just below the winch. Make sure the hole lines up right under the chain drop. Put another hole of the same size in the top of the locker at the head of the bed. Placed a 4" piece of PVC pipe between the two holes. The chain drops into the lower locker and when it feels up the chain goes up the pipe into the upper locker. the Admiral covered the pipe with fabric that matched fabric in the forward bed room. I have not had any problem with having to push chain out of the way.

Having something that fed into that below the V berth space had actually entered my mind but I couldn't figure out where the water would go. When I was cleaning out the small "normal" locker I realized the rug in the front berth was getting wet from the occasional over flow. I really am appreciating everyones comments.

I had been wondering the same thing. Not sure if and when, but it is something that keeps coming to mind.

When I had my 3288, I was able to put 190 ft of 5/16 BBB in the unmodified chain locker without having to knock down the pile.

Post 6 describes how to bypass the chain locker behind the cupboard door forward of the berth. His pipe takes you to the large locker beneath the berth. There you can glass in a 2x4 bulkhead to contain the chain. That solves the pyramid issue, allows more chain, but introduces water and mud etc under the berth. Consider both options. The locker that pyramids has a drain.
