We have a Splendyne in both our 47 and 40 foot motorhome. They are worthless. The size load they wash is quite small. Then when the dry cycle starts, the 120 volt dryer takes forever. In 18 years we washed one load in the 47. We have never used the unit in the MH in ten years of ownership.

We are thinking longer term cruising, liveaboard [ sort of] and really the only thing our boat is lacking is laundry. But if they dont work then.....i just hate laundrymats

the 240 volt units might work better, but only if I can fit onto the boat. Maybe in the 2nd stateroom locker?

I just purchased a killer deal on a stackable washer/dryer combo and we are wondering about installing it in our 3888 in the master head... granted we would have to remove the head and sink for it.... BUT... whats the easiest way and has anyone done this?????

We have the Splendide combo washer/dryer onboard, and find it a great tool as a live aboard. Ours it the vented model, which does a great job on our clothes and linens. Yes, you have to do smaller loads, but it's just another paradigm shift one accepts as a liveaboard.

We agree with Pau hana here....with teenagers aboard this tool has been quite helpfull when we are away for a week and need to keep up. Towels and heavy clothes will take longer and we normally try to avoid drying them or place them on a rail for a few hours. With some planning in when and how long you use the dryer the unit can be quite helpful.
Must keep the lint filter clean so that the venting helps out greater.

Hope this helps

thanks for the replies, with the Spendide vented model, how much room behind the unit is required for the vent hose?
Their website says 2 inch clearance but that can't be enough for the vent???

We also have the Splendide combo. in our motorhome and use it all the time.
Yes the loads are smaller but if you have dock power and water, so what? It isn't like you have to tend it. It sure beats lugging clothes to a laundermat to sit and wait.
For us, it is far from useless. You simply have to accept what is and use it to your advantage.
But it does take up space. If we were not using ours, it would be gone. Why carry around the weight and lose storage room?

I recently installed a stackable Splendide washer and dryer. We are very happy with ours. The newer models are very good. The washers spin cycle is so good, that sometimes you think the cloths are dry from it alone. Of course they aren't. The dryer works very well. The biggest thing that you have to have is sufficient venting. Non vented machines are worthless. Also, the venting that Bayliner installed is does everything to prevent air flow. It is 3 inch plastic hose that kinks at every turn. I would think that the combo VENTED units would be similar to the stackable units but if you have the room for the combo you may be able to find some room for the stackable. I have included a link to my installation which shows the conversions from combo to stackable.

They draw so little energy we are able to run both the washer and dryer at the same time as long as the electric heaters are not on in the boat. There seems to be no way around the 30 amp two step.

When I installed our system I installed rigid PVC 4 inch line with only (2) 90 degree and (2) 45 degree elbows. I also installed a good vent outlet with louvers. We get great air flow.

Here is a great source for the machines: http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv_parts_rv_accessories.htm

Hi Gary. I have Splendide combo In my 3870. Mine is the non-vented type. The only draw back with this is it uses a lot of water during the drying time. I live on board and at the dock a lot, so the use of the water is not a big thing. I have had it on board for 10 years and have not had a problem.

Thanks for the replies and the links. I think it will be the vented model if it will fit into the stateroom locker.

Cheers, Gary

Where have you installed it, I liveaboard 8 to 9 months a year & have used marinas to wash clothes & bedding, this may not always be possible. Not sure if I'ld want to sacrifice the space required, but your experience may change my mind. Thank you

I have a Quietline WD805 I took off the 4588, I like the extra storage and never use the unit. Admiral says the unit must leave the garage or else. Anyone want the unit, either email or call. 253 405-9703

How can it use water at drying time?

I don't have any pictures. I had removed the Ice maker and the wet bar. This gave me plenty of room. Used the water supply lines that were connected to the bar sink for the washer. The drying cycle does use a lot of water, because it is drying with steam.
